My days as a telemarketer in Shanghai
Speaking of "telemarketing", I believe everyone is absolutely disgusted at first. They feel that it is a lie and they are embarrassed to mention it.
I thought the same way at first. I usually hang up the phone without thinking about it to avoid being cheated. But after half a month of sales calls in Shanghai, I not only changed the My original thoughts and re-examining the profession of telemarketing made me realize how difficult it is to work in telemarketing.
Before I went to Shanghai, I submitted a lot of resumes to online recruitment websites, but I didn’t invest in telemarketing. For some reason, this company (for reasons of business confidentiality, I won’t mention my name) called me. He said there was a shortage of phone sales and asked me if I had any intention. I said I had no experience, but the person said it didn't matter. He briefly understood the basic situation and asked him to send the basic information to you and me.
After hanging up the phone, I kept wondering why the company knew I was looking for a job and knew my information when I clearly didn’t invest in it. Later, when I went there, I heard them explain that they had joint partners and could collect big data. This is also the reason why people's information is easily leaked nowadays. What's even more terrifying is that during the training, the head teacher said that the company boss can withdraw all the money from a person's bank card at any time, and then steal all the money in her bank card the next second. So why not do this? Woolen cloth? Because there are legal and personal moral bottom lines. Now that I think about it, I’m still afraid of how many of these high-tech hackers are looting unconscionable money.
I’ve said too much and gone off topic, so let’s bring it back to telemarketing.
After arriving in Shanghai, I first checked the company address. It was genuine, and went for the interview at the specified time.
Because I went there relatively early, there were not many people, but the more than 100 people who came one after another were truly worthy of being a large company with deep pockets. I waited quietly. While communicating with the people next to me, I found that many of them had not invested in this company. It was probably because the company was too short of people, so I cast a wide net. I felt nervous and relaxed immediately. It seemed that everyone was happy. I came here to test the waters.
We were quickly divided into groups. After I went in with everyone, I sat there upright, not daring to make the slightest move. The interviewer was very kind and asked us some questions casually, such as: why do we want to do telemarketing, how old are we, where is our home, do we have any boyfriend or girlfriend, etc. There were 7 people in a group, but only one person was eliminated in the end. At first, he said that he would eliminate ordinary people, and the previous nervousness disappeared. Then there is the negotiation of salary and getting an offer, which is not much different from ordinary companies.
After the interview, it was two days on the weekend. Big cities are great, and they are so punctual on both weekends.
I got up at seven o'clock on Monday, excited and longing to start a new life, and went to work. After waiting for a while next to the subway, the subway arrived. It was really overcrowded. I didn't feel this way a few days ago. When it was time to go to work, I realized what it was like to be suffocated by so many people. There was no room to even turn around.
When we arrived at the company, the manager asked us to go to the designated place. We all sat there. It was almost ten o'clock. Everyone began to distribute a package of contracts, entry instructions and other things. I bought a laptop, which was really rich, but later I realized that it was all needed for work, so it was nothing. Then follow the steps to fill out the onboarding process.
We were arranged to another place at noon, and then we started to eat. I really felt that the food next to the office building was expensive, and there was no food below 20. It was a pity for me, a poor guy.
I spent a long time there in the afternoon and said that I would have to train for 4 days starting tomorrow. After the training, there would be a basic test and a speaking skills test. As soon as the exam was mentioned, everyone's nerves became tense. The class teacher comforted us and said that as long as we study hard, we will pass. There is no elimination ratio. Those with a score of 80 or above on the basic questions will pass, and those with a score of 60 to 80 will be retaken, and those with a score below 60 will be eliminated. The speech skills were scored on a 10-point scale. A score of 5 or above was enough to pass the test. They also encouraged us and said that we would definitely pass. Then we are organized to get to know each other, group into groups, and perform performances to enhance understanding and friendship among colleagues.
The next day was training. This training was really full of work. It made me re-recognize this position and gain a better understanding of advertising.
I learned that the advertisements that usually appear when I open an APP have names, which are called screen swiping, as well as information flow advertisements, CPT, GD, CPA, etc. It is really like a mountain. The new knowledge field makes me very excited and I have learned a lot. I memorized so many things that I didn't know before very seriously. The teacher said there was no need to memorize them in class and they would post them in the group chat. I went to training for 2 days, and the exam started on the morning of the next day. I read my notes the night before and narrowly passed. I was so excited. Speaking skills training is to listen to excellent recordings. Maybe I have never been exposed to this industry and don’t know what the key points are. I feel so bored that I almost fall asleep while listening, but I still persevere for the exam. I also narrowly passed the speaking test, thank God.
I have been training for almost a week. I feel very relaxed and I like it very much. Only after I have done it do I realize how difficult it is. Two-thirds of the people can't persist and leave their jobs voluntarily. Alas... As expected... No profession is easy.
I went to work on time on Monday and said I was going to go down and actually make a phone call. I looked at the computer and phone in front of me and was at a loss. I looked around, looking around, looking at the people around me. Similar to me. Finally, I mustered up the courage to make the first call. My voice and hands were trembling, but I still forced myself to sell the product. Later, the call became smoother and smoother, and the call lasted for a long time.
The next day, we moved to another place. It was said to be a trial period, and there were tasks: the average daily call volume during the five-day trial period was 90 minutes, the number of calls was also 90, and the number of effective calls was 4 , and sent out 2 business opportunities. As soon as they heard this, everyone started to yell. Some people thought it was easy, while others thought it couldn't be completed without following. No matter how much you say, it's useless. You still have to make a call. Some people find it boring after just 10 minutes of calling. They quit because it's not what they want.
The job trial officially started on the third day. Everyone rushed to make phone calls in an attempt to complete the process quantity first, but someone unexpectedly sent a business opportunity in the afternoon. Only then did they remember that process quantity is important, as well as business opportunities. The most important thing is to start looking for possible business opportunities again. Business opportunities are really not that easy to find, otherwise everyone would not have to suffer so much. By the evening, more than ten people had resigned, while the rest were still persisting. The next day, I was still making phone calls, looking for business opportunities, and completing the process. Almost ten people couldn't hold on and left. Halfway through, experienced people were asked to impart their experience and gain some blood, but it was still difficult to retain those who left. Watching a group of people leave, including those on the left, I feel really bad. Even if I don't feel good, I have to hold on until the end of this month.
In the end, all the process was completed, but there were no business opportunities. I didn’t want to persist anymore, so I submitted my resignation. When I left, the manager asked me why I resigned. There would be training opportunities for business opportunities. There would be, I said politely. He declined and left anyway.
During this period, I met a friend who was very awesome and a very nice person. We chatted easily and completed the process and business opportunities. However, she said that she wanted to call me every day after staying here. , this is too scary. Sigh... I really feel that the ones who will stay in the end are either those with particularly strong perseverance or abilities, or those who truly love this industry and are willing to learn it.
As the saying goes, there are three hundred and sixty professions, and you will be the number one in each profession, but it is so difficult to do well in each profession.
The days of working in electronic sales in Shanghai really benefited me a lot and I have a lot of feelings. I believe that no matter what I do in the future, I will be grateful for this half-month experience.
