On July 18, 2000, according to the spirit of higher education management system reform and layout structure adjustment, after research, the Ministry of Education agreed to merge Beijing graduate department of North China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower into Beijing University of Technology, and at the same time cancel the institutional establishment of Beijing graduate department of North China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower.

First, scientific research strength:

By 200 1 graduate department was merged into Beijing University of Technology, graduate department in Beijing had enrolled 333 graduate students, and the Institute of Water Conservancy had enrolled more than 100 graduate students, all of whom were trained by the Institute of Water Conservancy, with the main purpose of enriching their scientific research strength.

In terms of scientific research, before the merger with Beijing University of Technology, there were more than 50 scientific research achievements, including 6 national awards. While taking graduate students and engaging in scientific research, it also exercised the teaching level of all faculty members. Up to 200 1, 3 1 teachers in graduate department have been awarded the title of professor, and some teachers have made outstanding contributions in different fields.

200 1 Before graduate department was merged into Beijing University of Technology, there were three majors in graduate department, namely, hydraulic structure engineering, hydraulics and river dynamics, water conservancy and hydropower engineering, reliability analysis of high dam structure, nonlinear science and its application in hydraulic structure analysis, hydraulics of discharge structures, computational hydraulics, new technology of water-saving irrigation and standardization of engineering construction.

There are nearly 20 research directions, such as economic management of water conservancy and hydropower projects, development of new technologies for construction machinery of water conservancy and hydropower projects, and operation management of hydropower plants. Approved by the former State Education Commission, two majors, namely, hydraulic structural engineering, hydraulics and river dynamics, have the qualification of training master of engineering through separate examinations.
