Why are more and more young people and old people in the workplace having conflicts?
Many HRs will choose people with relevant work experience when recruiting. Young people who have just graduated or who have graduated not long ago are always not considered. Except for the fact that these young people are recruited because they have no relevant experience. In addition to work experience and the inability to work directly, the reason why HR is reluctant to give them opportunities is also because young people have a series of labels such as not being serious about their work, carelessness, poor attitude, and lack of professionalism.
It is undeniable that such people do exist among young people. I also mentioned in my previous articles "Why do you get a high salary as soon as you graduate" and "Some people deserve to be unable to find a job" However, for those college students who have no attitude, no ability, and have high self-esteem, I really don’t even bother to scold them, let alone recruit them to work. But among college students, there are also many people who can position themselves correctly and know how to make progress. But what do these young people sound like?
I have heard my younger friends complain to me more than once about the "bad behavior" of older people in the company towards them. It is common for them to be ostracized, isolated and scapegoated. Although, before you prepare to enter the workplace, you must understand that "it is a courtesy for others to help you, and it is a duty for others not to help you" is one of the most important survival rules in the workplace. However, taking the initiative to integrate was met with cold treatment, and humbly asking for advice was met with indifference by the elders. The result of working conscientiously was to become a scapegoat. This way of getting along is really sad.
Faced with such complaints, have HR people ever reflected on whether young people are really that bad? Are young people too bad, or are older people in the workplace too arrogant? Perhaps if you think about it from the perspective of young people, you will find that the so-called carelessness and poor attitude are sometimes reasonable things.
I have a friend who is a very thoughtful girl. She speaks outspokenly and always does things in a hot-tempered way. She majored in advertising design and graduated in June last year. After graduation, she was determined to find a job in an advertising company, but she was rejected in various ways because she did not have much work experience. Forced to survive, I settled for the next best thing and found a job as an artist on Taobao. During the interview, I saw that the department structure of the e-commerce company was reasonable and the personnel contract was formal. I felt that I might have slipped through the cracks and entered the next "Handu Clothing Company", even though the salary was outrageously low.
However, after joining the company, she discovered that she was not allowed to do even the art work well. Because she was a newcomer, she was often asked to organize the warehouse, which was called to let her understand the products. Organizing the warehouse can help you understand the products. All products are sealed in boxes, and all you can see is the item number and quantity. In the final analysis, it is just because she graduated from a major, and her basic knowledge is relatively more solid than others. She can draw pictures quickly and does not procrastinate. After finishing her work for the day, she will browse some professional websites, while most other artists have become monks halfway and are professional. Not as good as her, the art supervisor is a woman in her 30s, and he always hates her being idle, so he sends her to the warehouse to help organize the warehouse and place orders for delivery. If she chooses not to go, she will naturally be said to be unmanageable. After all, as a supervisor of that company and an old man, her words have more weight than hers. However, for the sake of the monthly rent, she can only endure it. The price is to go home like a local monkey every day.
Of course, the boss will turn a blind eye to this situation. After all, he only needs to pay one salary, but my friend can complete the work of two people, so why not do it. This situation lasted for more than a month. The moment she received her first salary, she passed her supervisor and slapped the resignation letter she had prepared on the boss's desk, a large piece of white paper. She only said, "Resign, I'm not happy!" Then she returned to her work station, packed her things, and said to the art supervisor who had asked her to go to the warehouse, "Scheming bitch, keep going, I won't serve you anymore!". No one in the room had time to respond to what was going on.
Actually, I have always envied her, and I often pride myself on being a fearless woman, but I have never had the courage to do things too absolutely. I think in this case, I just lost my temper, wrote a high-sounding resignation letter, and then resigned in despair.
I remembered that when I first started working as an intern a few years ago, I was also disliked by everyone. At that time, I was only in my early twenties and didn’t understand so many ways of the world. I went to Beijing alone and interned at a group buying website, doing the work of editing and sorting out website pages. I was full of confidence at the beginning because the company would provide a week-long training for each new employee, and they would know the work content. We will also explain some of the company's rules and regulations. A week after the training, there will be a dedicated instructor to guide you in your work. The instructor and the leader at the time are also two good-tempered sisters who are also very kind to me. I thought I would be on the right track. After entering the prosperous road, I didn’t expect that the confidence I felt at the beginning was just because I was too young and too simple.
Some of the contracts used by group buying websites and merchants need to be written by hand. Various handwriting styles are different. If the writing is ugly, it will be even more difficult to read. In addition, what we got is a scan. It is common that the electronic version of the document cannot be read clearly.
When I first started working independently, I encountered such a job. The supervisor was not around at the time, and I didn’t know how to deal with it, so I asked the colleague sitting next to me how to deal with such a problem. The other party told me: "Call and ask sales!" She looked very impatient, as if I owed her thousands of dollars. Although she did give me a solution, this kind of attitude will make me uncomfortable when I encounter someone next time. When asked questions, I didn’t have the courage to ask her again
Of course, there were times when I was criticized without warning. I remember that was the first time I wrote a buffet page, because I didn’t do it during the training. I didn’t talk about the issues that I should pay attention to in this kind of page in detail. I wrote it based on my past experience and referred to previous pages. However, after I submitted it, the person in charge of the review came to me directly and gave me a face-to-face education. He pointed out a lot of mistakes I made while writing, but at the same time, he also slapped a big hat on me for not being careful. My first reaction at that time was to resign and leave. I thought it was just an internship, so why should I suffer from this? Then I stopped working and chatted with a senior who I had a good time with in school on QQ. He graduated a year earlier than me and was working in Nanjing at the time. I complained to him about the things I encountered. After listening to it, he told me a lot of truths, which roughly means that most workplaces are like this. The old people squeeze out the newcomers, and the newcomers become old people, and then squeeze out the newcomers. Of course, he also told me about some dogs he met during his internship. Bloody incident. It is undeniable that his words made me feel relieved. After all, the best way to comfort a person is to tell him that there is someone who is worse off than him.
So, from my own experience, or you HR can also recall that when you first entered the workplace, have you ever been treated arrogantly by older people in the workplace? What was your state of mind at that time? Have you ever been passive at work, or even wanted to leave? Perhaps the carelessness and poor attitude of young people are just one aspect of their performance, and the causes of these aspects are also likely to be related to the arrogance and exclusion of older people in the workplace.
So, please HR and career veterans, while criticizing young people, reflect on whether you have sincerely helped and supported those young people who are new to the workplace at work. If you don't want to spend so much time and experience, please don't criticize and attack too much.
Finally, I would like to say something to newcomers in the workplace. Although you will encounter some unfair and disharmonious phenomena on your job search journey, they are only a minority after all. If you can correct your mentality, face the workplace bravely, and survive these unfairness and disharmony, you can become more and more awesome. At the same time, the office will become your other home, and your colleagues will become your family and friends. Just like I am still glad that I interned at that group buying website, because I learned a lot and made many good friends there.
