Where is Fenggang in Dongguan?
Fenggang Town, Dongguan, was called Li Tangdong in ancient times. In the early years of the Republic of China, Fenggang Xinxu was built and later renamed Fenggang Town.
The ancestors of Fenggang people are immigrants, and the languages from different immigrant areas are divided into vernacular and Hakka. The ancestors of the vernacular population moved from Nanxiong in northern Guangdong to Guangzhou and then to Fenggang. The indigenous people who came to Fenggang village in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty have a history of more than 600 years. The ancestors of Hakkas were originally in Fujian and Jiangxi, and then moved south to eastern Guangdong. According to the inscription in Huanglong 'an, Huangdong in the middle of Qing Dynasty, the ancestors of the first group of Hakkas who settled in Fenggang Village were "Thirteen Gongs", and it has been more than 300 years since they moved to the south of Guangdong and recovered Fenggang.
Fenggang Town is known as the hometown of overseas Chinese, and many overseas Chinese are distributed in 36 countries and regions on five continents. It is one of the important hometown of overseas Chinese in Dongguan. In the early Qing dynasty, there were not many Hakkas in Fenggang. They mainly worked in agriculture and went abroad to make a living. There are no "overseas Chinese" and no compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao. According to the genealogy of the Huang family in Shishi Gorge, Fengdeling, during the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, Huang, the ancestor of the Huang family, went out to make a living in Nanyang. Created a precedent for immigrants in Fenggang area. 1840 After the Opium War, Britain occupied Hong Kong and openly recruited a large number of cheap Chinese workers, the essence of which was to sell Chinese workers. In order to make a living, many Hakkas in Fenggang, struggling with war, famine, disease and poverty line, have become trafficked "contract Chinese laborers" (commonly known as selling piglets). In the early stage, most of the "contract Chinese laborers" in Fenggang were sold to Malaya and other countries in Southeast Asia to mine and cultivate rubber seed forests. The second phase of "contract Chinese laborers" was mostly trafficked to Suriname and Jamaica in South America. These people were later called overseas Chinese. Many overseas Chinese often go back to China to find their roots and ancestors.
