How does arowana breed?

When arowana breeds, male and female fish are free to pair, mother tongue lays eggs, and male fish is fertilized. Then the male fish hatches the eggs in his mouth for 40 days, during which the male fish does not eat or drink.

1. Adult arowana is 40-50 cm long and has a life span of several decades. Fierce temperament, mainly hunting live fish and shrimp, aquatic insects, frogs and so on. Parent fish keep their eggs in their mouths until they hatch, so they are commonly called "dragon spit beads". Since the middle of the 20th century, it has developed into an ornamental fish. It attracts a lot of attention, because its shiny metal paste is like armor, and its bright colors (gold, red, etc. ) and dignified manner. Its value has risen to tens of thousands of yuan, making it one of the most precious ornamental fish, including Jinlong, Honglong and Qinglong. Endangered by over-exploitation of resources, it is listed in Appendix I of the List of Protection of the Washington Convention (CITES).

2. Arowana is huge and flat, and its trunk is covered with huge and neatly arranged shiny scales; It has a big mouth and two tentacles at the corners of its mouth. It swims leisurely, just like the mythical "dragon", hence the name "arowana". Up to now, it still retains the body characteristics of ancient times, and is known as the "living fossil of fish", which is of great breeding and ornamental value.
