Construction status

The Jicha Expressway starts from the north slope of Laoshiling in the west of Jishou City, connects Changde to Jishou Expressway, passes through Shuguang, Aizhai, Paibi, Malichang, Tuanjie and other places, and finally ends in Hunan and Guizhou. The Huayuan River in Chadong, Huayuan County, at the junction of the three provinces (cities) of Chongqing, has a total length of 64.3093 kilometers. The entire line is constructed according to two-way four-lane highway standards, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour, a roadbed width of 24.5 meters, and a separated roadbed of 2×12.25 meters. The entire line includes 1 special bridge (suspension bridge) with a main span of 1188 meters, 39 other bridges, 13 tunnels, 72 culverts, 75 passages, 4 interchanges, 6 separate interchanges, 1 service area, 5 A toll station. The total estimated investment amount across the board is nearly 5.585 billion yuan.

As an important part of the construction of this line, the Aizhai Suspension Bridge is the highest, longest and largest suspension bridge currently planned in Xiangxi Prefecture. Once completed, it will add another highway wonder to our prefecture. The bridge has a span of 1,188 meters, a span height of 330 meters, a main beam with a total length of 1,022 meters, a clear bridge deck width of 23.6 meters, and a steel truss stiffening beam with a total width of 27 meters. Two main cables are used. The center distance of the main cables is 27 meters. The whole bridge uses 67 pairs of suspension cables. The standard distance between the suspension cables is 14.6 meters. The main span beam height (at the center line of the main truss) is 7.5 meters. The two main towers stand on the relatively stable mountains above the cliffs on both sides of the Aizhai Canyon. Both ends of the bridge are connected to tunnels, which can be said to be a "natural chasm turned into a thoroughfare". The estimated project budget is 790 million yuan.

Jilin-Cha Expressway is a section of the Changsha-Chongqing Highway planned and constructed by the state. It is an important part of the Baotou-Maoming Expressway in the national highway network. It is also one of the "Five Verticals and Seven" planned by Hunan Province. It is an important part of the "Horizontal" expressway network, an important tourist channel in Hunan Province, and a transportation artery connecting ethnic minority and poverty-stricken areas in the west.

Completed and opened to traffic

On the morning of March 31, 2012, the opening ceremony of the Jishou-Chadong Expressway and Aizhai Extra Large Suspension Bridge in Hunan Province was held in Aizhai, Jishou. At 11 a.m. on March 31, 2012, the opening ceremony of the Hunan Xiangxi Aizhai Bridge, the world's largest steel truss suspension bridge across a canyon, was held.

The Changji section in Hunan and the Chongqing section of the Yuxiang Expressway have long been opened to traffic. However, the Jicha Expressway (Jishou-Chadong), which connects the Hunan section and the Chongqing section, is only 65 kilometers long due to the steep and complex terrain and difficult construction. The construction period lasts 4 years. Among them, the Aizhai Extra Large Suspension Bridge is a control project for the "natural chasm to be transformed into a thoroughfare" in this section.

Aizhai Bridge is about 20 kilometers away from Jishou City, and crosses the Dehang Grand Canyon 355 meters above Aizhai Town. Construction of the Aizhai Bridge started in October 2007. With a main span of 1,176 meters, it is currently the world's largest steel truss suspension bridge across a canyon.

The official opening of the Aizhai Bridge means that the entire expressway from Changsha to Chongqing will be connected, which will change the backward traffic situation in Xiangxi, Hunan, and at the same time greatly improve the current traffic situation in Hunan and Chongqing.
