What jobs are there in the Internet industry?
There is no doubt that the Internet industry is an industry where the rich come forth in large numbers and the new rich come forth in large numbers.
In the past, many people's first choice for employment was to enter the world's top 500 or foreign companies. Now more and more people want to enter the Internet industry first. Even many of the top 500 companies have switched to the Internet industry.
What we are talking about here is "Internet industry" rather than "IT industry". Many people will be confused, so it is necessary to explain first.
"IT industry" is the general name of all industries related to computer or information technology, and it is a relatively broad definition. Including all enterprises related to information technology, including software, hardware and services.
Strictly speaking, "Internet industry" is a subset of "IT industry".
Now speaking of these two words, their meanings are slightly different. Generally speaking, "IT industry" refers to all companies that make profits by selling actual hardware or software. For example, Huawei, Lenovo and Inspur mainly sold hardware before.
"Internet industry" refers to enterprises that provide services and make profits through the Internet. Such as Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance. They don't actually sell a specific physical product to users, and users use their products or services through the network.
There is a big difference between "IT industry" and "Internet industry". For example, at the age level, the "Internet industry" is much younger. In terms of corporate culture, the "Internet industry" is also very active.
People use all kinds of internet products every day, but they know little or nothing about this industry. This paper focuses on the department organization and positions of enterprises related to "Internet industry". It can be applied to Internet companies such as BAT (Baidu, Ali, Tencent) and Today Headlines.
Note: I have been in this industry for fifteen years: (?
Generally speaking, the departmental organizations of Internet companies can be divided into three categories: product research and development (production research), market operation and functional guarantee.
The first is product research and development, which, as the name implies, is responsible for product design, research and development, maintenance and so on. Well-known product managers, programmers (coders, software engineers) and test engineers all belong to this category.
Followed by the market operation category. When a product is developed, someone has to visit it, which means getting customers. When customers come, we should not only find ways to keep them, but also find ways to stimulate their activity and even recharge their consumption. We also need to engage in marketing activities, advertising, promotion and so on, which belong to the market operation.
Finally, functional support, or logistics support. Including administration, personnel, finance, legal affairs, internal control and internal audit, PR (public relations), GR (government relations), customer service and so on. This kind of post is a little far from the product itself, and basically serves other lines internally, except for some exceptions such as PR, GR and legal affairs.
Each line will naturally be subdivided into business divisions, centers, departments and groups. And each company will have subtle differences, or different names, but basically the same.
The proportion of people in each line depends on the type of business. General products, science and technology companies and natural production and research companies account for the vast majority, such as BAT (Baidu, Ali, Tencent) and ByteDance.
If it is a service company, such as Ctrip, it may be that business personnel and customer service personnel account for the majority. For example, companies that do toB (that is, serve enterprises) mainly sell enterprise services, and the proportion of sales staff may be higher.
How to carry out the work on the three lines respectively, and how to contact?
To put it simply, people in the front line of production and scientific research are responsible for doing a good job. They are producers, just like manufacturing workers in factories.
People who run the market are responsible for selling the things they have made, or letting more people use them.
Functional departments mainly guarantee the first two types of personnel to carry out their work better. Such as recruitment, training, solving legal problems, dealing with public relations and so on.
Speaking of salary, generally speaking, the salary cost of production and scientific research personnel is the highest among these three categories, and it will be much higher. For example, the salaries of HR and TA at the same level are generally lower than those of R&D. I am talking about the general situation, but there are exceptions.
Different types of jobs naturally require different skills and experience.
For production research, it may be more difficult to cross the border from other industries. Because the demand for products and research and development in other industries is very different from that in the Internet. In addition, different industries face different markets.
What about marketing operations? There will be a big difference. For example, for marketing, many Internet marketing methods are also based on the Internet, or new media, and of course traditional media. However, if we cross the border from traditional industries to the Internet to do new media market or operation, we will face greater challenges.
In the functional category, the industry attribute is relatively not so strong, which means that the difficulty of cross-border internet access is the lowest, but it does not mean that there is no difference at all.
In short, if you are interested in this industry and even want to enter it, you might as well know more about it first.
