In 1978, riding on the spring breeze of reform and opening up, Jiangsu Provincial Tourism School, known as the "Cradle of Chinese Tourism Talents", was born in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, and China's tourism vocational education sprouted. . In 1984, the school moved to Nanjing and was renamed Nanjing Tourism School. With the development of China's hotel industry, in 1991, the "Whampoa Military Academy of China's hotel industry" - Jinling Hotel Management Cadre College was established in Nanjing. In 2001, the two schools merged and joined forces to become the most important talent training base for the tourism industry in Jiangsu Province and the largest hotel talent training center in China. In 2007, with the approval of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, our college was officially transformed into Nanjing Tourism Vocational College, becoming the only tourism higher vocational college in the province.
Over the years, our college has trained more than 10,000 students majoring in tourism. Currently, there are more than 5,000 students in ***, with three departments: hotel management, tourism management, tour guide and travel agency management, tourism English, tourism Japanese, tourism marketing, tourist attraction management, Chinese (Western) style cooking, and flight attendant services. There are more than ten majors, among which the hotel management major has been rated as a national and provincial model major by the Ministry of Education of China and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. In 2008, based on the development of the tourism industry, our college will open new majors such as Korean for Tourism, Golf Club Operation and Management, Western Cooking, and Chinese and Western Pastry Making Technology.
The institute adheres to the policy of parallel academic education and industry training, and has trained more than 60,000 middle- and senior-level managers for the hotel industry across the country. It ranks first among major universities, with trainees located in all provinces and cities across the country (except Macau). In order to strengthen the leadership of the industry, the college has held a number of national high-level forums and seminars in the tourism industry, and has made due contributions to the team building and management software construction of China's tourism hotel industry. It is praised by the industry as "China's Hotel The Whampoa Military Academy that manages talents." In April 2007, our institute was awarded the honorary title of “Advanced Group in the National Tourism System” by the Ministry of Personnel of China and the China National Tourism Administration. It also received the “Jiangsu Province Tourism Talent Development Award” from the Jiangsu Provincial Tourism Administration.
Commissioned by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, in 2004, the college became the leader unit of the tourism vocational education curriculum reform in Jiangsu Province, taking the lead in starting a new round of tourism vocational education curriculum reform in the province. After more than two years of hard work, it has formed high-quality specialty majors and courses such as hotel management, cooking technology, and catering management, which have been highly praised by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
In order to comply with the trend of accelerated development of industrialization in our country and meet the industry’s urgent need for cultivating applicable talents, in 2005, with the strong support of the Jiangsu Provincial Tourism Bureau and the Department of Education, our institute took the lead in establishing one in the country The first tourism vocational education group. The group has brought together high-quality tourism schools in various cities in the province, the top 100 travel agencies in the country, four-A (five-A) scenic spots, five-star hotels and some high-quality tourism companies to join in, with the goal of building the first square of tourism in Jiangsu and even the country, and has taken great strides forward. The pace of school-enterprise linkage and group-based school running has been accelerated. Two years after the group was established, as the chairman unit of the Vocational Education Group, our school first considered setting up an internal operating mechanism for school-enterprise interaction from the perspective of cultivating applicable talents. It also takes advantage of high-quality resources to lead the group's member schools to complement each other's resources, launch a number of cooperation in teaching, scientific research and other aspects, and promote the improvement of the overall level of tourism vocational education in the province.
The college has always attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with international tourism schools. Over the years, it has selected many key teachers and sent them to the internationally renowned Ecole Hotel de Lausanne in Switzerland, Cornell Hotel College in the United States, and Singapore. Exchanges and studies were carried out at Shatek Training Center, Australian Regent Hotel College and other professional institutions. In 2001, our school signed a cooperative education agreement with Angliss College in Australia to jointly train hotel management students. Currently, the scale is expanding in an orderly manner and the level of schooling is constantly improving. This year, we are also negotiating with Purdue University and Preston University in the United States, as well as tourism schools in the United Kingdom, Austria, South Korea, India and other countries, and actively carry out cooperation matters.
In recent years, our college has gradually established an international internship and training base, which currently covers high-end hotels in Japan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and other countries (including the seven-star Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai), and sends more than 100 training students every year.
Under the guarantee of multiple education paths, our graduates have widely won the market reputation of "outstanding image, strong affinity, and well-trained", attracting many companies to recruit students to the school. Over the years, the college has not only maintained an employment rate of 100%, but its employment scope has extended from hotels, travel agencies, and tourist attractions to high-end service industries such as civil aviation, finance, telecommunications, real estate, and investment companies.
Since the beginning of this year, the school-running level and level of our college have been continuously improved. With the strong support of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, our college was successfully transformed into Nanjing Tourism Vocational College on November 27, 2007. At the same time, the college's new campus in Nanjing Jiangning University Town is under construction and will be put into use in 2008. By then, the college's school-running conditions will be greatly improved. With the further development of the college, it will provide more and better mid-to-high-end tourism professionals for the tourism industry and promote the sustained, healthy and rapid development of the tourism industry in Jiangsu and even the whole country.
