The names of provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), regions (cities, prefectures and leagues) and counties (districts, cities and flags) in China are represented by six different levels of Arabic numerals.

Administrative division code, also called administrative code, is implemented by two national standards: Administrative Division Code of the People's Republic of China (GB/T2260-2007) and Rules for Compiling Administrative Division Code below County Level (GB/T1014-2003).

This standard specifies the codes of administrative divisions at or above the county level in China, with 6 Arabic numerals representing the names of provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), regions (cities, prefectures and leagues) and counties (districts, cities and flags) at different levels in China.

For example, the administrative division code of Yuanzhou District, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province is 360902.

The meaning of administrative division code

(1) The first and second digits represent provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions);

(2) The third and fourth digits represent cities (summary codes of regions, autonomous prefectures, leagues, municipalities directly under the Central Government, municipal districts and counties). Where 0 1-20 and 5 1-70 represent provinces and municipalities directly under the central government; 2 1-50 indicates regions (autonomous prefectures and leagues);

(3) The fifth and sixth representatives represent counties (municipal districts, county-level cities and banners). 0 1- 18 refers to the county-level cities under the jurisdiction of municipal districts or regions (autonomous prefectures and leagues); 2 1-80 stands for county (flag); 8 1-99 stands for county-level cities directly under the provincial government;

(4) The seventh to ninth representatives represent towns (street offices).
