Instead of attending the job fair, he chose charity entrepreneurship
When I got off the train at the Kunming New Asia Sports City subway station, I saw wide roads and tall buildings as far as the eye could see. There was nothing like a village in the city.
Wang Xiao came to pick us up and took us on a beautifully restored urban greenway. Suddenly, after turning a corner, a quaint and somewhat dilapidated village slowly appeared.
This is Hongren Village where he stayed for two years and decided to stay forever.
Wang Xiao, a camper at Kunming Station of Weila Youth Charity Leaders Camp (click to learn more). In my sophomore year, I came into contact with Hongren Village in Guandu District, Kunming City. In my junior year, I entered the village to provide children's services. In my senior year, I started a charity business and took root in the village. In 2017, I established the Renxin Social Work Service Center (hereinafter referred to as "Renxin").
Because of this determination to continue taking action, Wei La and his party decided to change their itinerary and visit Ren Xin after finishing at Kunming Station.
At this time, Renxin had just been incorporated for two months.
Wang Xiao took Wei La and his group to the village. Walking through the 100-year-old grandma's home, he talked about the daily routine in Yunnanese and patiently explained it to us.
Which tile was made in which era, which old man is now lonely and helpless, and which child is out of school tonight, he counts them carefully, as if they are his family. 1 "One", Wang Xiao accidentally became a student of the Department of Social Work of Yunnan University (hereinafter referred to as "Yunda" and "Social Work").
Soon, he was confused. The employment rate and wages of social workers are low, and in his eyes, "it is impossible to solve the problem at its root" and "we wait until the wounded appear before bandaging the wounds."
Fortunately, this disappointment and youthful arrogance allowed him to argue with his teacher about "the use of social workers" and "what can we change?" in his spare time.
Argument brings speculation.
Wang Xiao began to really get in touch with books related to social work, relaxed his prejudices, and decided to do it first to see what would happen. There was too little practice in the school, so he found resources on his own and joined the teacher's graduate program. His seniors didn't take him with him, so he went alone, interviewing aunts and uncles with questionnaires, letting the fabric of society grow into his body bit by bit.
He entered this urban village that changed his life.
There were sighs, silence and even acceptance in the interview. I watched my elders cry like children in front of me, and kept saying "everything is gone"... Approaching this city that has been eroded by urban development Nakamura, he found that he began to "truly understand social work" and began to think about "how to do it?" "Why do it?"
"Can one person or several children change because of me?"

Become part of the village
After the project ended, Wang Xiao and another partner stayed to do children's services.
It was a lonely day. He majored in social work, but no one could work with him. All his classmates did their own thing, but they didn't do social work. Even the most outstanding seniors ended up working in state-owned enterprises after graduation.
But once he did it, he never left.
In the name of homework tutoring, they explore more educational possibilities, taking children to do homework, watching movies, reading in the morning, opening a toy library (where children in the community can come to borrow toys), and inviting the elderly Telling stories about the village, supporting children in maintaining and transforming the community...
There was no venue at the beginning. The villagers suspected that Wang Xiao’s team was cheating money and refused to allow the children to come.
During the summer vacation of his junior year, he and his companions lived directly in a tin house in the village. It rains a lot in Kunming, and the leaky iron house cannot accommodate the upper bunk, so several people have to squeeze into the lower bunk, suffocating in the heat of the iron sheet and falling asleep listening to the sound of water dripping from the upper bunk.
More and more children came, and they all rushed to tell their grandma, "I'm going to go to their college students to paint there!"; the village team was also willing to provide the unused temple living room as a venue; The grandparents regard them as their own grandchildren and send food every now and then... The most important thing is that the parents are willing to talk to Wang Xiao about their children.
Take root and turn a foreign "him" into a unique "us".

Set out with all your heart, no longer waiting for anyone
Still working purely in Hongren Village, 2017 has arrived in a blink of an eye. Wang Xiao is a senior and it’s time to find a job. His prejudice against social workers has long since dissipated. He wants to find a mature public welfare organization to stay for two years to gain more comprehensive experience.
But things in the village couldn't stop him.
Already he was coordinating all matters, large and small, just like a founder: visiting foundations, meeting with partners, supporting interns... and at the juncture of graduation, establishing an organization seemed to be a smooth process.
But no matter how good the foundation is for what Wang Xiao is doing in the village, once he sets up an organization, it is like a blank sheet of paper. He has to draw the territory in every direction and quickly establish the foundation. Can it be done? His first full-time job summary was full of worries: Is it necessary to build an agency?
Tangled, self-doubt, and on the verge of giving up countless times, but looking at the children and peers, he is still at the forefront, doing projects, running procedures, and registering for the Renxin Social Work Service Center, from beginning to end. Support an immature team.
Unknowingly, I got through the most difficult moment.
Now, Wang Xiao can stay in the village with peace of mind again. Challenges in the start-up period are always there, and he accepts them, formulates countermeasures, takes action quickly, and always tries his best.
Looking back at his decisions and actions at that time, Wang Xiao has no regrets. Explore the role of benevolence in children, parents, and the village; surrounded by many children every day, creating changes little by little; looking at the village, living out your own strength in the steel and iron mud... these are the purest things, Touching the softest place in his heart.
He was determined to set off, just to get this thing done and not wait for anyone.
…
Weila didn’t leave Renxin until 9 o’clock in the evening.
Wang Xiao sent us through the village again. Wang Xiao had so much to talk about about the difficulties in the start-up period and the various problems and shortcomings of the team. We stood at the subway entrance before leaving, but we still didn't enter. Until we talked about the last subway train, we sincerely told each other, hurriedly entered the gate and said goodbye to Wang Xiao.
This is not necessarily the best path, but it is the path he chose and walked on firmly.
