To become a citizen, you must come to the United States legally and have a long enough immigration status before you can start applying. Non-immigrant status such as tourism, business and study cannot be applied.

Every state in the United States has a police school, and each state has its own physical and academic requirements. Police schools in some states can accept public registration, while others require people who have been recruited by the police. Those who sign up for school by themselves will find jobs by themselves after graduation. Some states stipulate that if they are not employed by the police within a certain period of time, they need to be re-certified.

One advantage of being an American policeman is that in 2004, HR2 18 Law on the Safety of Law Enforcement Officers was passed, so that you can carry guns with you in the United States after work or after retirement. If you don't want such benefits, if you just want to play with guns, you don't need to be an American policeman.
