Before the popularization of NC machining, machining special-shaped parts was generally manual+EDM. For example, if you want to make a helmet mold, you can't make it hemispherical like a helmet. The shape still depends on the shape of the head. At that time, the common method was to carve a male mold by hand, and then spark a female die. It will take half a month and twenty days to put it down. With CNC milling, it only takes one or two days, and the shape and surface quality are better than manual+EDM, so bosses think it is worthwhile to spend four or five hundred dollars a day.

Later, bosses found that this technology was not difficult, especially in the case of mechanical foundation, and it was not complicated, so many bosses taught themselves to program, and the price dropped at once. The price of small factories is low, and the price of large factories will soon be cheap.

Material was not as rich as it is today. We have many small factories that make plastic sandals and sole molds. For the master inside, we call it "shoe model", which is a little memory of the pre-CNC era.
