The school, formerly known as Foshan Teachers College and Foshan Branch of South China Agricultural University, was established in 1958. Later, Foshan Teachers College was renamed Foshan Teachers College; 1February, 986, Foshan University was established on the basis of Foshan Normal University; Foshan Branch of South China Agricultural College was also renamed Foshan Veterinary College and Foshan Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College. 1995 In March, Foshan University and Foshan College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry merged to form Foshan College of Science and Technology, which was upgraded to an undergraduate course. In February 2005, Foshan Staff Medical College (founded in 1924) and Foshan Education College (founded in 1960) merged into Foshan Institute of Science and Technology.

As of March 2023, the school has three campuses, namely Xianxi, Jiangwan and Binjiang, with a total campus area of more than 2,200 mu and a construction area of more than 650,000 square meters. There are 16 secondary colleges, 57 majors, 7 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree, and 10 categories authorized by master's degree; Faculty 1886, full-time undergraduate 17684, graduate 1850, and 46 doctoral students.
