The rescue mission usually lasts for three to twelve months, depending on the nature of the work and the post. If the applicant can spend more time on rescue work, or even take part in MSF international movement as his lifelong career, priority will be given.

Volunteers usually work and live together. Because of the long working hours, backward living environment and little private space, volunteers need to be tolerant and adaptable, and are willing to communicate with people of different nationalities and cultures.

(4) Life/work experience in developing countries

Most of MSF's relief projects are in developing countries, and those with working experience in these countries are preferred.

(5) Ability to cope with pressure

Volunteers must be able to cope with difficult and unpredictable situations, such as adapting to culture, local living environment, and considering safety and problems among team members.

(6) Excellent adaptability

The situation of rescue projects changes at any time, and the scope of work and departure date will also change or even be temporarily cancelled. Team members and working environment will also change, so adaptability is very important for volunteers.

(7) Language ability

Fluency in English is a must, and French, Spanish, Russian or other European languages are preferred.

Take a course in tropical medicine.

If volunteer medical staff (except mental health professionals) have no training or experience in tropical medicine, they need to attend tropical medicine courses before leaving.
