Teacher Chen Dahui’s 2014 New Year’s message - Traditional culture is most in need of talents

Dear students from all over the world:

Happy New Year! Everyone, please take a seat! The new year has arrived, and we are here in 2014. We sincerely wish fellow practitioners all over the world happiness in their families, advancement in Taoism, and an early revival of human traditional culture, Chinese traditional culture, and all nations in the world, especially our Chinese nation. Why is the early rejuvenation of the Chinese nation so important? As early as the 1970s, the great British historian Mr. Toynbee said that only the teachings of Confucius and Mencius and Mahayana Buddhism can save the human world in the 21st century. These things are all in China, so the hope of mankind and the hope of the world All hope lies in the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. National rejuvenation, this is a slogan, how can it be realized? We have heard Master often teach that the rejuvenation of the nation and the rejuvenation of Chinese civilization must rely on people. It cannot be revived on its own, nor can it rely on people, nor can it rely on systems. The system is here, and it is very good, but there are no people. No one has everything at zero. With the arrival of the New Year, our best blessing to everyone is that we hope that we start from "me", start from ourselves, and start from ourselves. The deeper meaning of starting from ourselves is that there must be someone, who will do it? You do it, don't expect others. Master often says that those who expect others will be disappointed. We must let people see the revival of traditional culture. I can’t see him not believing that Chinese traditional culture, Chinese civilization, the teachings of Confucius and Mencius, and Mahayana Buddhism, what’s so good about them? You have to prove it, so in today's world, there is no shortage of high-rise buildings, high-tech aircraft and automobiles, and good people! What kind of person is that? People who can really make great aspirations and devote their lives to the rejuvenation of the nation and the peace of the human world. We often see many volunteers making vows in front of the Buddha and at various Dharma gatherings. Some of them burst into tears. What a pity? Three days of hot air, so this is an empty wish. We have been studying traditional culture for several years, so after coming here in the past few years, I have the biggest emotion. It seems that there are many people learning, and it is quite lively, especially in the event. The forum sometimes had an audience of more than 10,000 people. In 2013, the Propaganda Department of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee invited me to give a report. The audience was more than 14,000 people. It was a lot of people. For four days, they talked about the history of Wuhan. There has never been such a big meeting before, and the order was very good. Sitting in the front row was the deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee. He kept taking notes after he delivered the opening speech. I talked until 12:40, and he seemed I have been writing it down there. Many officials said that they have never heard of it. This is the first time I heard it. It is so rare. There are many volunteers at the forum every time. As soon as the forum is over, the people will disperse. As soon as the people leave, the tea will get cold. So at the beginning of the new year, everyone has to ask, what is the most important thing for traditional culture? People are needed most. Now in this business, we see that there are many kind-hearted people, and it can be said that there is no shortage of money. Think about it, everyone, a forum with more than 14,000 people, just for lunch, the lunch box is as much as it is, four days, four days free Someone is providing lunch boxes. There is no shortage of money, houses, or land. You see, I have met many enthusiastic people over the years. They have asked me if they need space or land. I am very grateful, but I really don’t need it. , why? No one. Not long ago, some enthusiastic philanthropists and lay people came to me. They wanted to build a large building and build a traditional culture and education center. How wonderful! When he asked me, I asked them for advice. I said this building is easy to build. You see, that building grows faster than people. It has not grown much after a year without seeing people. The building has already reached the sky. I asked you, after the building is completed, will the building be empty? right. Who will live there? He said to the teachers, the teachers who give lectures, to the students, to the volunteers. I said where are these people? Sometimes the cost of building a building is very high. It is true that the state supports and the government encourages us. We do good things and educate people well. Right, after you build the building, what about the people? Who will take care of your students? Who will give the lecture? So they asked: Isn’t this easy to find? I said it's hard to find. We have been studying for so many years, but it is rare to see someone, especially one who has been determined for a long time, leave after half a month, and leave after three months to go back to make money.

What should you do? What should you do with your building? After the building is built, it needs to be maintained. The house is always unoccupied. The house is easy to break down. How much does the water and electricity cost for the house? So we discovered that traditional culture does not lack money, houses, land, or hardware and equipment. It lacks nothing but people, no one! This is the biggest problem in today's traditional culture industry, so we listen to Master's lectures. Master has been teaching for five or ten years. Master often talks, talks every day, and the most important thing is to cultivate talents. No one can do it now!

Interruption of the lecture by Master Jingkong------"Pure Land Sutra Commentary" on December 26, 2013: Teacher Li accepted me as a student for the purpose of passing on his teachings. After I left, there was still a lecturer who could continue to speak, so now I think about how important this successor is. If we don’t have a successor, we will be sorry for the teacher, the great patriarch, and the Buddha Sakyamuni. When I stopped here, Ta Kung Pao came to visit me and asked me what I was anxious to do. I told him that what I was anxious about now was to find a successor, a successor to the Pure Land Sect's "Infinite Life Sutra". If there are one or two, if this Dharma door is not interrupted, we will be worthy of the teacher.

What we have experienced over the years is that, first of all, this cause is very lacking in talent for protecting the Dharma. What do we mean by talent for protecting the Dharma? For example, this is a dojo, a traditional culture school, or a Buddhist chanting hall. Someone has to manage it, someone has to maintain it, and the office has to have an office director. It is just like a unit. You are twenty years old, He can't do it when he is seventeen or eight years old. He has no social experience. Where can he find someone with rich social experience and experience, who is really willing to dedicate his life to this cause, and does not leave every day, regardless of remuneration, without any reward, here? Is there anyone who will do their best to be your office director? She must be young and strong. You cannot have an old aunt. She is suitable in her thirties or forties. Where can you find such a person? Generally speaking, you have to make money to support your family, and what's more, if you look at people who study traditional culture and Buddhism, they have to have fun every day, and they can't let it go. In the office, there is also finance. In addition to the person in charge, there are also people who do the actual work. It requires a team. The office must have typists, secretaries, people who welcome people to and from them, and protect the law. Where can I find people? Over the years, we have met many enthusiastic lay people who have sent their children over. How old are they? They were in their early twenties, graduated from college, both boys and girls. Within three days of arriving, they were sent back. Why? We have to serve him. We don't know anything. He speaks very well and promotes the Dharma to benefit living beings. The Dharma protector specializes in serving people, so he has to be able to do everything. The simplest one is like a school or a monastery. It must have a kitchen and a warehouse. You have so many people eating, drinking, sleeping, eating, drinking, sleeping, etc., right? Everything about food, clothing, housing, and transportation must be in charge of logistics. There must be a logistics manager. The manager, who is in his twenties, doesn’t even know how to put noodles into a bowl, but he just knows how to eat them. Why? I dote on the older one at home, but I go to restaurants every day in college, and I don’t know how to do anything. It’s good to learn traditional culture, but here you still have to serve him, two people take care of him, this is reality, there is no one, there is a huge shortage of people! This is what we are talking about about Dharma-protecting talents, and we need too many people. A monastery, a school, and the water and electricity of the house need to be repaired. Where can I find plumbers and electricians? Then you have to be on call. You can’t stay forever and you have to rush over right away. Where can I find him? It's even harder to find someone who will live there for a long time. He needs to know about water and electricity and be an expert. If he doesn't, it will be dangerous. This can't be done with enthusiasm. For example, if you are the one who cooks and buys groceries, you can't be an old aunt. What should you do if the old aunt is sick? What should we do if these old people pass away? It's outrageous to be here at seventy years old cooking for your twenty-year-olds or teenagers. Therefore, we have to find young people to cook. Which young people can cook nowadays, especially those with big stoves and wood fires? There are dozens or hundreds of people cooking. Who can? So now there is a shortage of people to protect the Dharma. We really need people. If you think you are suitable, you can really make this intention. On our website, you can see the contact information for recruiting volunteers, but we want to tell everyone about this matter, you must go with it and don't force it. The first condition is that your family, parents, and elders must agree. If you don't agree, we won't dare to accept you anywhere. It won't work if you sneak out. It must be humane and reasonable, and it must be legal. You can't do illegal things. That's why we are here to tell everyone that what is most needed is human beings. This is about protecting the law. Then, what do you rely on to carry forward traditional culture and achieve national rejuvenation? Those who rely on promotion are the main force.

Who are these people? Look, let's give a few examples. The first one is that there are people who can give lectures in the studio. Look, I am one of them. Over the years, you can't always give lectures here, and your hair will turn gray. Even though it’s only a few years old, you can already see that this is a sign of aging and metabolism. That’s why the ancients often said: People have metabolism, and talented people will emerge from generation to generation. Who will be our successors? Master often says, "There are three types of unfilial piety, the greatest of which is not having children." What is this "after"? The latter refers to your successor. Master, this year, (20) 14, he is eighty-eight years old. As for our generation, look at the teachers of traditional culture who came to the stage to report. The older ones are about fifty years old, four , fifty years old, and below that, there are very few. The twenties are too few, and this problem arises. There are three types of unfilial piety, and this problem arises. I’m sorry, ancestors, you didn’t train people, so we will start from now on. From the beginning, we need to consider the talents that will be passed down. How old is the appropriate size? Don't be afraid of being small. The younger you are, the better you can teach. Master always tells us, the younger you are, the better you can teach. As long as he has the ability to take care of himself, at the age of three or four, his family will be willing to devote this child to the cause of promoting Dharma and benefiting living beings. Let him receive the best humane education and Confucianism education from the sages in primary school. The education of Buddhism is good, it really makes people have successors, so we say that four or five years old is one generation, those over ten years old are one generation, those over twenty years old are one generation, three generations; those above thirty years old are one generation, four generations; We are forty years old, over forty years old, and five generations. Can we have five generations living under the same roof? Counting down from the age of forty to five or six years old, there are five generations. What does it mean to have five generations living under the same roof? They are all studying in the university hall, and five generations live together, so when they are five or six years old, they are the bottom generation, the fifth generation. When they grow up to ten years old, the next generation rises again, one generation after another... now... Are there any parents like this who say that my child is just for this career and in the future he will not make money or start a family and contribute to this career? This really requires the consent of the whole family. You cannot do it forcefully or secretly. The family has to be a pot of porridge. That's not possible. You have to let it happen! But if there is such a fate, it is so rare. You can contact this hotline or the Internet. This child is five, six, or eight years old. He has been following this path all his life, doing nothing else, propagating the Dharma and benefiting living beings. He does not seek happiness for himself, but only wants to free all sentient beings from suffering. How wonderful it is to be free from the sea of ??suffering. As the old saying goes: People can promote the Tao, but it is not the Tao that promotes people. If this Tao wants to spread and be passed down, it must have people. People can spread the Tao. If the Tao does not spread the word, if there are no people, it means nothing! What's the point of putting those books there? It is passed down from generation to generation, and the more it is passed on, the less recognized it is. When it is passed down to our generation, we really don’t recognize it.
