Hunan Railway Vocational and Technical College is a provincial-level public college approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and put on record by the Ministry of Education. It is the first batch of demonstration vocational colleges in China and the first batch of excellent vocational colleges in Hunan Province. It is a vocational college mainly oriented to the rail transit equipment manufacturing industry.

In 20 18, it was ranked as 10 in the national competitiveness ranking of comprehensive higher vocational colleges jointly published by China Institute of Science and Education Evaluation (CASEE) of Hangzhou Dianzi University and China Scientific Evaluation Research Center (RCCSE) of Wuhan University.

The school was established in 195 1. In July, 2000, with the approval of Hunan Provincial People's Government, the former Zhuzhou Railway Motor School merged with the University of Industrial Workers of the Ministry of Railways and was upgraded to Hunan Railway Vocational and Technical College. The school fully implements the Party's education policy, takes moral education as the fundamental task, and deeply integrates into the whole industrial chain of rail transit industry, mainly cultivating high-quality technical and skilled talents facing the needs of rail transit, equipment manufacturing, electronic information, enterprise management and other industries.
