Harbin University of Commerce, founded in 1952, is the first multidisciplinary business university in China. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, 1958 started undergraduate education, and 1982 started postgraduate education. It is one of the ten universities jointly built by the central and local governments and key construction in Heilongjiang Province. The school is positioned as a teaching and research university. In 2006, he was awarded "excellent" in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education. 20 12 was selected as the national "Basic Capacity Building Project of Universities in the Midwest", 20 13 became a member of the Sino-Russian Economic University Alliance, and 20 14 won the title of the fourth "National Civilized Unit".

The school is a doctoral and master's degree awarding unit approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, and has the qualification to recommend and receive outstanding fresh graduates to study for master's degree without examination. The school has 25 colleges and 2 business economics and business engineering research institutes. There are 3 Post-Doctoral Research Center and 2 postdoctoral research stations. There are three first-class doctoral programs in applied economics, business administration and traditional Chinese medicine (covering two disciplines 15 doctoral programs), and food science 1 doctoral program, in which applied economics is the only doctoral program in Heilongjiang Province.
