What kinds of social security include?

Social security includes the following five types:

1. Basic old-age insurance is a social insurance system established and implemented by the state according to the provisions of laws and regulations. Under this system, employers and workers must pay endowment insurance premiums according to law. After workers reach the retirement age stipulated by the state or quit their jobs for other reasons, social insurance agencies shall pay them pensions and other benefits according to law to ensure their basic livelihood.

2. Basic medical insurance is a social insurance system established to compensate workers for economic losses caused by disease risks. The medical insurance fund is established through the contributions of employers and individuals. After the insured person has medical expenses, the medical insurance institution will give certain economic compensation.

3. Work-related injury insurance refers to a social insurance system in which workers or their survivors suffer from accidental injuries or occupational diseases at work, or under specified special circumstances, resulting in temporary or permanent loss of working ability and death, and the state and society provide material assistance;

4. Unemployment insurance refers to a system that is enforced by the state through legislation, and is jointly funded by employers, individual employees and state financial subsidies to establish an unemployment insurance fund to provide material help to workers who have temporarily suspended their lives due to unemployment, to ensure their basic livelihood, and to create conditions for their re-employment through vocational training and employment introduction;

5. Maternity insurance. It is a social insurance system in which the state provides medical services, maternity allowance and maternity leave to pregnant women through legislation, and the state or society provides necessary economic compensation and medical care to pregnant workers. Maternity insurance benefits in China mainly include two items. One is maternity allowance, and the other is maternity medical care.
