The social security card cannot be activated if it has not been activated for half a year, as follows:

1. The insured can activate the social security card immediately after handling in the bank. If it cannot be activated immediately, it should be activated within six months, otherwise the use of the card will be restricted. The insured who fails to activate the social security card within the time limit shall bring his ID card and social security card to the card bank to activate the social security card, and the new social security card will return to normal after activation;

2. After the medical insurance account is activated, it will return to normal state, and the new social security card can be used without loss or other influence. The activation period of the new social security card is within 6 months from the date when the insured or the insured unit goes to the social security card processing window to get the card.

Legal basis: Article 58 of People's Republic of China (PRC) Social Insurance Law.

The employing unit shall, within 30 days from the date of employment, apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration for its employees. If the social insurance has not been registered, the social insurance agency shall verify the social insurance premium it should pay.

Employees-free individual industrial and commercial households who voluntarily participate in social insurance, part-time employees who do not participate in social insurance in the employing unit and other flexible employees shall apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration.

The state establishes a national unified personal social security number. Personal social security number is a citizen's identity number.
