The Interim Measures for the Convergence of Urban and Rural Pension Insurance Systems stipulates that people who participate in the occupational insurance and the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance can apply for the convergence procedures of the occupational insurance and the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance after reaching the statutory retirement age stipulated by the occupational insurance.

There are two types of cases: first, if the person is eligible to receive occupational insurance, he/she can apply for transferring the relevant rights and interests of the original participant of the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance to the occupational insurance, and the corresponding treatments will be issued in accordance with the method of occupational insurance; second, if the person is not eligible to receive occupational insurance, he/she can apply for transferring the relevant rights and interests of the occupational insurance to the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance, and the corresponding treatments will be issued in accordance with the method of the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance, when he/she achieves the conditions of receipt stipulated in the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance. The corresponding benefits will be paid in accordance with the New Rural Insurance or Urban Residence Insurance.

The Interim Measures for the Convergence of the Urban and Rural Pension Insurance Systems stipulate that if a participant needs to go through the procedures for convergence of the New Rural Insurance and the Urban Residence Insurance due to the relocation of his household registration during the period of payment of contributions, the participant can apply for real-time procedures for the convergence of the systems in the place where he moves in. If a participant transfers from the occupational insurance to the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance, his/her years of contributions to the occupational insurance can be combined and added up to the years of contributions to the new rural insurance or the urban residence insurance. If a participant transfers from the New Rural Insurance or the Urban Residence Insurance to the Employment Insurance, his/her contribution years in the New Rural Insurance or the Urban Residence Insurance will not be converted into the contribution years of the Employment Insurance.
