Does social security mean endowment insurance or medical insurance?

Social security is neither endowment insurance nor medical insurance, as follows:

1, social security is the general term for pension, medical care, work injury, unemployment and maternity insurance. So the meaning of social security is relatively broad, including endowment insurance and medical insurance. But the usual social security can be divided into two categories, 1 is employee social security, and the second category is resident social security. Employees employed in enterprises are insured by employee social security, and flexible employees can choose to pay employee social security or resident social security;

2. Employees' social security includes the above five insurances, while residents' social security generally has no unemployment insurance, maternity insurance and work injury insurance, only medical insurance and endowment insurance. Of course, if flexible employees pay social security in their personal capacity, they only need to pay pension and medical insurance, and the other three insurances do not need to be paid.

Legal basis: Article 58 of People's Republic of China (PRC) Social Insurance Law.

The employing unit shall, within 30 days from the date of employment, apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration for its employees. If the social insurance has not been registered, the social insurance agency shall verify the social insurance premium it should pay.

Employees-free individual industrial and commercial households who voluntarily participate in social insurance, part-time employees who do not participate in social insurance in the employing unit and other flexible employees shall apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration.

The state establishes a national unified personal social security number. Personal social security number is a citizen's identity number.

Article 59

The people's governments at or above the county level shall strengthen the collection of social insurance premiums.

Social insurance premiums shall be uniformly collected, and the implementation steps and specific measures shall be stipulated by the State Council.
