Can the social security card be frozen?

The social security card cannot be frozen.

Social insurance fund is a special fund, and its use is strictly restricted. Social insurance funds cannot be used to repay the debts of social insurance institutions and their former subordinate enterprises. These regulations ensure the safety of social insurance funds and the principle of earmarking.

Provisions on the use of social security cards:

1. Issuance of social security cards: uniformly issued by social security departments for individuals participating in social insurance;

2. Social security card function: it has the functions of identity authentication, social security information inquiry and medical expenses settlement.

3. Activation and loss reporting of the social security card: the newly received social security card can only be used after activation, and it needs to be reported in time after loss;

4. social security card recharge and use: it can be recharged at the designated recharge point to pay medical expenses.

5. Update and renewal of social security card: With the change of social security policy or card damage, it needs to be updated or renewed regularly.
