Can self-funded social security reimburse maternity insurance?

Legal analysis: no reimbursement. Generally speaking, the social security paid by oneself can only reimburse the medical expenses of giving birth to children, but not maternity insurance, because maternity insurance is generally paid by employers and individuals cannot pay it themselves. That is, if there is no job or the unit fails to pay social security, there will be no maternity insurance benefits, and those who pay maternity insurance normally can enjoy maternity insurance benefits.

Legal basis: Article 29 of the Social Insurance Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) stipulates that the medical expenses incurred by the insured shall be paid by the basic medical insurance fund and directly settled by social insurance agencies, medical institutions and pharmaceutical trading units. The administrative department of social insurance and the administrative department of health shall establish a settlement system for medical expenses in different places to facilitate the insured to enjoy the basic medical insurance benefits.
