How to pay for social security after a major illness and unemployment

There are two kinds of unemployed people. The first is those who are enjoying unemployment benefits (i.e., recipients of unemployment insurance benefits). According to the regulations, this type of person shall participate in the social security of the employee before he/she became unemployed, and the unemployment insurance agency will handle the contribution procedures. The other category is those who do not have unemployment insurance benefits, flexible employment personnel, such as self-employed workers, freelancers, migrant workers, unemployed persons and so on.

Article 48

Unemployed persons shall participate in the basic medical insurance of employees during the period of receiving the unemployment insurance benefits, and shall enjoy the treatment of basic medical insurance. The basic medical insurance premiums to be paid by the unemployed shall be paid from the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and individuals shall not pay basic medical insurance premiums.

Article 49

If an unemployed person dies during the period in which he or she is receiving unemployment insurance benefits, a one-time funeral grant and pension shall be paid to his or her surviving family members, taking into account local regulations on the death of an active employee. The required funds are paid from the Unemployment Insurance Fund. If the death of an individual meets the conditions for receiving the funeral grant of basic pension insurance, the funeral grant of industrial injury insurance and the funeral grant of unemployment insurance at the same time, the survivors of the individual can only choose to receive one of them.
