What's the difference between social security card and ordinary bank card?

The differences between social security cards and ordinary bank cards are as follows:

1, account functions are different. As a financial payment and settlement medium, bank card (debit card) only has a simple financial account, which belongs to a single account card type, while social security card belongs to a composite account card type, and there are not only financial accounts but also social security accounts in the medium. Finally, in terms of functions, bank cards can only handle financial services, while social security cards have functions such as social security registration, pension collection, payment, social security information inquiry and medical insurance reimbursement in addition to financial services.

2. The application procedures are different. Bank cards can be handled directly at bank outlets and can be activated normally. However, the social security card needs to be printed by the social security agency first, then applied to the bank, and finally made by the social security agency. Generally, it can't be obtained on site, and it can only be used normally after it is activated by itself.

3. The fee concessions are different. Bank cards generally have a card opening fee and an annual fee. If the average daily deposit is below a certain amount, there is also a small account management fee. Now the social security card is still in the promotion period, not only free of handling fees and annual fees, but also a lot of account management fees. However, the loss reporting fee of social security cards is generally higher than that of bank cards, because the cost of social security cards is higher.

Legal basis:

Article 5 of the Measures for the Administration of Social Security Cards of the People's Republic of China
