Flexible employees, the so-called payment of social security, actually only include two payment standards: employee pension insurance and employee medical insurance, because as flexible employees, they can only choose to pay pension insurance and medical insurance, so flexible employees can't pay unemployment insurance, work injury insurance and maternity insurance, so the social security of flexible employees refers to pension insurance and medical insurance. Social insurance refers to a social and economic system that provides income or compensation for people who lose their ability to work, are temporarily unemployed or suffer losses due to health reasons. The main items of social insurance include endowment insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, industrial injury insurance and maternity insurance.

The social insurance plan is organized by the government, forcing a certain group to use part of its income as social insurance tax (fee) to form a social insurance fund. Under certain conditions, the insured can get fixed income or loss compensation from the fund, which is a redistribution system with the goal of ensuring material and labor reproduction and social stability.

Social insurance is an important part of the social security system and occupies a core position in the whole social security system. In addition, social insurance is a contributory social security. The funds are mainly paid by employers and workers themselves, and the government finances give subsidies and bear the ultimate responsibility.

Article 10 of the Social Insurance Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), employees shall participate in the basic old-age insurance, and the employer and employees shall jointly pay the basic old-age insurance premium. Individual industrial and commercial households without employees, part-time employees who have not participated in the basic old-age insurance in the employer and other flexible employees can participate in the basic old-age insurance, and individuals pay the basic old-age insurance premium. The measures for the endowment insurance of civil servants and staff managed by reference to the Civil Service Law shall be formulated by the State Council.

Twenty-third employees should participate in the basic medical insurance for employees, and the employer and employees should jointly pay the basic medical insurance premiums in accordance with state regulations. Individual industrial and commercial households without employees, part-time employees who have not participated in the basic medical insurance for employees and other flexible employees can participate in the basic medical insurance for employees, and individuals pay the basic medical insurance premium in accordance with state regulations.
