What about social security if you don't work in the unit?
If you have left your job, your old company will not continue to pay social security for you. Your old company will go to the Social Security Bureau to go through the formalities of downsizing, so that your social security will be automatically closed.
If you go to other places, you have to transfer social security to other places. You only need to open a "payment voucher" in the social security department of the original payment place, bring it to the new place and new unit, and the rest will be handled by the unit.
If you transfer to a new local company, you only need to tell the new company your social security number, and the company can handle the social security renewal procedures for you (if you don't know your social security number and don't want to ask the original company, just ask the social security department with your ID card).
If you don't have a company after leaving your job and want to pay social security, you can go to the Social Security Bureau to pay it yourself.
Ways for individuals to pay social security:
Individuals who pay social security can only pay medical insurance and endowment insurance, among which flexible employees can pay employee medical insurance and employee endowment insurance, and unemployed residents can voluntarily participate in urban and rural residents' medical insurance and urban and rural residents' endowment insurance at their own expense.
Specifically, there are two ways for individuals to pay social security:
1. Pay social security for residents: Social security for residents includes urban and rural residents' old-age insurance and urban and rural residents' medical insurance, and the insured needs to pay it at the place where they are registered. Endowment insurance for urban and rural residents and medical insurance for urban and rural residents have legal payment time and are paid annually. Individuals can pay attention to the official WeChat account of the local Human Resources and Social Security Bureau to understand the specific payment time and payment method, and complete the payment within the statutory time.
2. Pay social security for employees as flexible employees: employees can open social security accounts for flexible employees at the social security agency where their household registration is located, or directly open accounts through the online official website channel of the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and pay their own fees. The treatment is the same as employee social security, which generally includes employee medical insurance and employee pension insurance. In some places, even if there is no local hukou, you can pay it as long as you meet certain conditions.
Legal basis:

The employing unit shall keep the text of the dissolved or terminated labor contract for at least two years.
