Why do I have more than one social security number

This situation is usually caused by system information not being updated in a timely manner. For example, you work for Company A, and the company paid social security to generate a social security number.

Then you go to work for Company B, and because the system is not updated, Company B pays the social security and generates another social security number. This way you have multiple social security numbers.

When this happens, go to the social security office (or local tax in some cities) and have your social security merged.
