What items does medical insurance cover?

China's social security system does not include free medical care.

The current social security system in China includes social insurance, social relief, social welfare, social preferential treatment and resettlement, basic living security for laid-off workers from state-owned enterprises and re-employment. Among them, social insurance includes endowment insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, industrial injury insurance and maternity insurance. The state establishes social insurance systems such as basic old-age insurance, basic medical insurance, industrial injury insurance, unemployment insurance and maternity insurance, so as to guarantee citizens' right to get material help from the state and society in accordance with the law when they are old, sick, injured, unemployed and have children.

According to article 45 of the Constitution of People's Republic of China (PRC), People's Republic of China (PRC) citizens have the right to receive material assistance from the state and society when they are old, sick or incapacitated. The state develops social insurance, social relief and medical and health services that citizens need to enjoy these rights. The state and society guarantee the life of disabled soldiers, provide pensions for the families of martyrs and give preferential treatment to the families of soldiers. The state and society help arrange the work, life and education of blind, deaf, dumb and other disabled citizens.
