Is social security for newborns the same as medical insurance?

Newborn social security usually refers to newborn medical insurance, because newborn social security is generally included in medical insurance, and there is no difference between the two. Because newborns do not have the conditions to pay endowment insurance, they only need to participate in medical insurance at this stage. The "medical insurance" here refers to the medical insurance for urban and rural residents. Within 28 to 90 days after the birth of the newborn, the guardian can bring the household registration certificate to the social security department in the region to participate in medical insurance.

Conditions of medical insurance for newborns

Take Changsha as an example:

Newborns who need to hold a Changsha birth permit or have a household registration in Changsha can apply for medical insurance for newborns in their communities.

If newborns who are not registered in Changsha want to participate in insurance, they need guardians to bring Changsha's birth certificate, birth medical certificate and photos to participate in insurance;

For newborns with Changsha household registration, guardians need to bring Changsha household registration book and photos to participate in the insurance;

Within 90 days after the birth of a newborn, the guardian shall enjoy medical insurance benefits from the date of birth after going through the registration and payment procedures according to the regulations with the newborn household registration book (non-Changsha household registration requires the guardian residence permit). Insurance registration requires my (newborn's) ID number, and I can't handle insurance registration and payment procedures just by my name. You need to register your child's account before you join the insurance.

Reimbursement method of neonatal medical insurance

If a newborn needs hospitalization after being registered by the neonatal medical insurance, it can go directly to the medical institution that agrees to hospitalization. When you are in hospital, you can pay your own expenses directly with the newborn's household registration book. Part of the expenses settled by the medical insurance pooling account and the medical institution need not go through other procedures.

Newborns who seek medical treatment in other places and want to go back to Changsha for reimbursement need to prepare the following materials: household registration book or ID number, hospitalization list, invoice, diagnosis certificate, report and detailed explanation. All information provided by the hospital needs to be stamped with the official seal of the hospital. Then take these materials to Changsha Medical Insurance Office to apply for expense reimbursement.
