The temple was built in the middle of the Tang Dynasty, and was originally named Sekizenan. At that time, incense was flourishing and pilgrims spread all over the south of the Yangtze River. In the first year of Jianyan in the Southern Song Dynasty (117), it was founded by Desheng, a monk in the western regions, and was named "Sekizenan".
