Hengyang, also known as Yancheng and Hengzhou, is a prefecture-level city, a provincial sub-center city and a national II-type big city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, which is located in the south of China and the south-central part of Hunan Province. Hengyang City is located in the concave axis of Hunan Province. Surrounded by mountains and ridges with intermittent zones formed by ancient degradation, and embedded with large areas of red hills and platforms of Cretaceous and Paleogene red beds, it constitutes a typical basin situation.

Hengyang basin is high in the south and low in the north. The southern part of the basin is relatively high, and the mountains above 1000 meters are tens of kilometers from east to west. The northern part of the basin is relatively low. Although the Hengshan mountain range is relatively high, the peaks stand in the middle in a peak forest shape, and there are low northbound passages on both sides of the basin. On the east side, the elevation of the banks of Xiangjiang River Valley is below 100 meters.

Surrounded by hills, the central flat hills crisscross. In the east, the remaining veins of Luoxiaoshan are Tianguang Mountain, Sifang Mountain and Yuanming 'ao. There are Yumaita Mountain, Dayi Mountain, Tianmenxian and Jingfeng 'ao in the south. The west is an extension of Yuechengling, Xiongqiling, Siming Mountain and Tengyunling. Most of the southern peaks are above 600 meters above sea level, and Tianping Mountain in Changning is the highest, with an altitude of 1265 meters. In the northeast, except Mount Hengshan in Nanyue, the ground elevation is generally 300-500 meters.

The lowest point is Pippen Port in Hengdong, with an altitude of only 39.2 meters. The landform types are mainly hills.
