The history of Beishui Village, Pingsha Town, Zhuhai, Guangdong

Pingsha is one of the ancient battlefields in the Yamen Battle between the Southern Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty from 1278 to 1279 AD. Wen Tianxiang, who witnessed this naval battle with his own eyes, recited the immortal poem "Since ancient times, no one has ever died, leaving a loyal heart that will illuminate history."

The Pearl River Delta was originally a shallow bay, formed due to the subsidence of the land. The Xijiang, Beijiang, and Dongjiang rivers supply the estuary delta with extremely rich materials every year, and long-term sedimentation has shaped the Pearl River Delta. Since they are not all typical deltas with flat plains, there are a large number of isolated islands and hills scattered in the plains. Sediments brought by the Xi, Bei and other rivers were deposited along the edges of these isolated mountains and islands. As the plains surrounding the island hills gradually expand, they slowly connect to each other. In other words, the development of the delta is not carried out as a whole, but in a mosaic style.

The "Pingsha" area is located in the "Zhongshan Drainage Delta" and is a downstream delta. It refers to the southern foothills area of ??Zhongshan County (Figure 1), located between Jiximen, Hutiaomen and Yamen. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it belonged to Xiangshan County (renamed Zhongshan County after 1925) and Huangliangdu, Chaoju Township. In the Ming Dynasty, the downstream delta developed toward Koumen, and the Zhongshan County area was developed. The reclamation scope was concentrated in the "northern Zhongshan County and southern Xinhui County area." According to records, during this period, Zhongshan County’s water conservancy was limited to only three or five Pihu lakes. Huang
