What's the difference between BEC and toeic?

1. Examination contents and preparation methods

Toe test mainly examines the English application ability of various occupations in real work scenes and daily life environment, downplays grammar knowledge and pays attention to practicality. Candidates don't need to memorize a lot of vocabulary and sea tactics, but they can achieve good results through daily accumulation, and the pressure of preparing for the exam is relatively small. Moreover, because scores can better reflect the real English level of candidates, enterprises are more willing to refer to TOEIC scores when recruiting.

BEC test mainly examines the English communication ability of candidates in a pure business environment, including many professional business English vocabulary and grammar, and candidates need to invest a lot of time and energy in preparing for the exam. Because of its small scope, it can't fully reflect the real English ability of candidates, so companies rarely adopt BEC scores.

For example, in the same bank scenario, BEC will learn the concepts of business knowledge such as LC and collection, but only knowing professional vocabulary can't help you complete a business task, while TOEIC will test the ability to communicate with bank personnel and learn the information needed to complete the task through communication.

Therefore, BEC is only applicable to the examination of business students or business professionals, while TOEIC is applicable to all students and employees.

2. Examination items

The TOEIC test examines candidates' listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities, in which listening and reading tests (the test of input ability) and speaking and writing tests (the test of output ability) are tested separately. Candidates can freely combine according to their needs, and both time investment and economic cost are more affordable.

BEC test is also divided into four parts: listening, speaking, reading and writing, but each part cannot be separated separately.

3. Fairness of test scores

The TOEIC test, including the oral part, adopts computer test. In the oral part, the computer records the candidates' answers and then transmits them to the online scoring system. Each crossing question is graded by 3-5 experts, and each expert only selects one oral question of the same candidate at most, so that the oral test of 1 1 question in extreme cases is collectively evaluated by 55 experts. Toe test is a professional English proficiency test developed by ETS in 1976, which is open to all countries in the world. Since 1979, the toeic exam has been officially opened, and by 2009, it has been considered by 5 million people all over the world. More than 90 countries and 9,000 internationally renowned enterprises have become long-term users of TOEIC. At the same time, TOEIC examination has become the admission standard of many business colleges in Europe and America.

BEC test was developed by the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education and the Examination Committee of Cambridge University in the United Kingdom on 1993, mainly for domestic enterprises and candidates. It is based on middle and higher English education, not enterprise human resource management. BEC exam focuses on the professional vocabulary of business environment, which is far from how to meet the real work needs. Therefore, there are not many companies recruiting with BEC scores.

5. The validity period of the certificate

The certificate of TOEIC test results is valid for two years, and the certificate of BEC test at all levels is valid for life.

If candidates are in a workplace environment where they don't often communicate in English, their actual English ability will drop sharply. Therefore, enterprises usually accept English scores that are valid for a certain time. For candidates, the two-year certificate is more recognized by enterprises than the long-term certificate.

6. Time cost and energy cost

The score of TOEIC test is based on the score after the test, and each candidate's score is based on the measurement results of the same standard, which can facilitate the horizontal and vertical comparison and save time and energy costs. For example, the score of candidate A can be compared with the score of candidate B, and the first score of candidate A can be compared with the third score.

BEC test is a system composed of multiple grade standards (elementary, middle and high). Candidates must evaluate their abilities before the exam and choose which level to take. If the forecast is not accurate, it is likely to cause economic losses and waste of time and energy. In addition, the BEC exam is divided into different grades, so the scores of different grades cannot be compared.
