I am a freshman majoring in Korean at Qingdao University. What should I do if I want to be a translator in the future?
There are roughly two types of translation.
One is professional spoken translation, such as simultaneous translation.
The requirement is not only to have outstanding language expression skills, but also to have good reaction and memory.
It requires a broad and deep knowledge base.
The second one is mainly written.
For example, from publishing houses or magazines.
It is enough to be able to write and read, but knowledge is also essential.
Both of the above are professional translations.
Nowadays, many students recruiting Korean majors only do simple translation and the like at the beginning.
Even students who are not currently majoring in language can still do translation work in enterprises.
For the company, most of these positions are for newcomers.
Many people work as translators for a period of time and then transfer to other positions, such as sales, etc., depending on your opportunities and abilities.
In short, language is a tool after all. You cannot always rely on it. You must develop certain abilities during college.
The future trend is for an environment where English and Chinese are the mainstay. More and more foreigners are learning Chinese. Please read more books in college that are related to your interests and are helpful for employment.
On the basis of learning this major well, it is not a good result to beat the odds.
This is just my personal opinion and is for reference only.
