It's really difficult to find a job after the self-study exam.

Education hidden rules: all self-taught candidates can enter the top 500, so what are you waiting for?

Narrator's file:

Ma Zhi, male, 26 years old, from Beijing, graduated from Business College of Beijing Union University in 2009, majoring in computer application (self-taught), and joined Shell (China) Co., Ltd. as a customer service specialist in September 20/2009.

I never thought that I would become a self-taught student. There are still some lucky factors, right Bad luck. When I was in junior high school, I was too playful and didn't study hard. I didn't get into an ordinary high school and went to a vocational high school. Originally, vocational high school students could also take the college entrance examination, but that year our school was stuck in pursuit of the enrollment rate, and it was stipulated that only students with the top scores of 10 were eligible to take the college entrance examination. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. Therefore, after graduating from vocational high school, I have to find my own way. My family helped me find a job as a proofreader in a newspaper. To be honest, I don't like this job at all.

By this time, I still didn't expect to take the self-study exam. At that time, I was young and a little confused. Then once, my cousin came to my house to play. He has just been admitted to the university. When we were chatting, he said, you know, a vocational high school graduate like you is as useless as having no major. The superiority he showed when he said this greatly stimulated me. I made up my mind to take the self-study exam.

I believe that all those who have had the experience of self-taught examination can deeply understand the difficulty of this road. I'm doing better. It took me three years to complete 22 courses and get my undergraduate diploma. Before every exam, my schedule is basically like this. After coming home from work every day, I take a bath and go to bed immediately. Sleep until 12 at night, get up and make a bowl of instant noodles to eat, and then start reciting. Back until 6 o'clock in the morning, then brush your teeth and wash your face to go to work. Before every exam, I suffer from severe insomnia because of nervousness. When it comes to work, I'm so sleepy that I can't open my eyes, and proofreading is a job that needs concentration. Sometimes I am really sleepy, so I will secretly pluck the hairs from my arms to sober myself up for a while.

This is really a very difficult process. I have thought about giving up countless times, and many students around me give up halfway, but the motivation for my final support comes from the unfair treatment I feel everywhere during the self-study exam. For example, when we go to the training class at the general meeting, there will always be a parking space and each student will be given a parking sign, but the parking sign issued to us will be specially marked: "Self-taught candidates". Some of my classmates will feel ashamed, and they will turn the sign over so that others can't see it. I've never done this before. I am stubborn. What happened to the self-taught students? Are self-taught candidates shameful? Another time, I chatted with an undergraduate student of the General Assembly. When I talked about the self-taught exam, he immediately said in a tone of distancing himself from them: Oh, I don't know them well. I immediately said: I took the exam by myself. He looks embarrassed. These experiences have stimulated my competitiveness, so I must stick to it. If I give up halfway, doesn't that mean that the self-taught candidates are not so good? !

Up to now, I still remember the day when I got the final exam results, with a score of 72. I feel extremely happy, but I don't know how to express it. I can only be silent. I am walking alone in the street, aimless, eager to move, but I can't stop. It seems that only by walking constantly can I calm down.

Soon after I got my diploma, I changed my job and worked as an assistant director of the marketing department in a small English training institution. There are two main reasons for getting this job. One is that they want to recruit a boy, and the other is that they want to recruit someone with little work experience-they think such a person is easy to manage. This is a nightmare work experience. I almost took on the work of several people by myself, including paying the telephone bill to the supervisor. Usually I have to go to the company at eight o'clock in the morning, and I often walk a long way to hold exhibitions alone with heavy exhibition boards, and I have to work 12 to 14 hours a day. In the first few months at work, my weight plummeted by more than ten kilograms. I can bear all these physical fatigue. I always feel that I have no advantage in education and work experience. It is also appropriate to be bitter and tired. But I can't stand people's disrespect for me, especially my supervisor, who graduated from a famous university, always has a sense of superiority in his manners. For example, sometimes I surf the Internet during my lunch break. When he sees it, he will say: You should use your lunch time to learn more. Your foundation is weak. Besides, he always said, "I know your background, so I don't expect much from you." You can't even meet such a requirement, which makes me intolerable.

Later, he resigned and went to a well-known American company. The Chinese name is "New Jusi", which is a top 500 electronic logistics company and ranks third in the world in the same industry. To tell the truth, when my friend told me such a recruitment information, I was still very uneasy. I always thought it was such a well-known foreign company. Can I become a self-taught candidate? But the reality went smoothly beyond my expectation. Not only did I get an interview, but people only asked me about my education: why didn't you go to high school? I answered truthfully. When the interviewer learned that I had completed 22 courses in two and a half years without delaying my work, he sincerely said: You have great perseverance and strong learning ability!

I got the job smoothly. I found that compared with other enterprises, in fact, foreign companies do not attach great importance to diplomas. There are many graduate students from Peking University and Tsinghua among my colleagues, but no one thinks it's great to have a beautiful degree. I get along well with them. It can be said that my real self-confidence was established in this job. Moreover, I find that I have many advantages over those trained colleagues. Most of our company's customers are in America. Because of the time difference with America, we often need to work at night. People who work at night are in poor spirits, and sometimes mistakes are inevitable. I remember once, a colleague filled in the wrong address of the invoice, which caused the customer to fail to receive the goods on time. He was very angry and claimed to complain about us. At that time, my colleagues panicked and asked me what to do. At that time, if we had followed the normal procedure, we should have reported the matter to the leader, but it was already late at night, so I didn't think it was necessary to fan the flames. And even if you report to the leader, isn't it the same to solve the problem? I behaved calmly, while appeasing American customers, I quickly found out the whereabouts of the goods, and then asked the American courier company to deliver the goods to the customers as soon as possible, and the matter was finally solved satisfactorily. The next morning, the leader came to work and learned about it. He praised me for my adaptability and good handling. It's ridiculous to say, in fact, I am the youngest in the company, but if there is any unexpected situation and the leader is absent, everyone is used to asking my opinion, because "Ma Zhi has more social experience than us".

Later, I decided to give up this job for physical reasons. Because I always have to work at night and can't sleep well during the day, my body will be a little overwhelmed in the long run. When I submitted my resignation to the leaders, they all felt very sorry and tried their best to retain it. But I have decided to go.

Then I came to my present company. Getting this job has something to do with the reputation of Xinjusi, because my job at Shell is similar to that in Xinjusi. They probably value my work experience, so 80% of the content of the interview revolved around my work in the new residence department, and the issue of academic qualifications almost passed by.

My work at Shell is as excellent as ever, and I get along well with my colleagues. But deep down, I found that I really care about my education. I often ask former vocational high school students about the recent situation of those who are qualified to take the college entrance examination 10. If I know that some of them are getting along better than me, I will feel a sense of loss; If you know that they are not as good as me, you will be a little complacent. Psychological some dark. And every time I report the news of the college entrance examination on TV, I will immediately change the channel, because I don't have that memory and I don't have that experience. When chatting with colleagues, I never dare to talk about topics such as university and education easily. I'm afraid people will ask me: which school did you graduate from? I don't know what to say every time, but I can only pass by vaguely. After I got it, I didn't want to have too deep personal relationship with my colleagues, and I was afraid that others would ask me this question. This has become the most troublesome thing for a long time, so I even thought about taking the postgraduate entrance examination, so that I can generously tell others: which school I graduated from.

I think I am an open-minded person by nature, and I don't like to hide everything, so this state of hiding something from others makes me feel very uncomfortable. I've always wanted to talk calmly with others about my education and my self-study life, but when people really ask me, I don't know what's wrong with me, I just can't say it. This has really been a problem in my life for a long time.

One day, at a colleague's party, everyone was talking about their college life, and I began to get nervous. As a result, the more afraid I am of meeting something, the more I will meet something. Sure enough, a colleague asked me: Ma Zhi, which school did you graduate from? At this time, I have a momentary struggle in my heart. I instinctively want to escape, but I know that if I miss this opportunity, maybe I will never be able to face my inner shadow. I got up the courage, crossed my chest and said in a casual tone, "I, I took the exam myself and didn't stay in school seriously." After that, my mind went blank and my face was burning. I secretly observed the reaction of my colleagues, and everyone's reaction was too unexpected-they just said "Oh" and did what they should do. I'm not even sure if they really heard my answer.

It can be said that it was that night that I really felt completely relieved of my status as a self-taught candidate. That day also became the happiest day after I joined the work. I suddenly realized: in fact, all the troubles are much ado about nothing. A lot of things, you don't care, and other irrelevant people don't care. And if a person wants to gain recognition from others, it is by no means by some illusory titles. What is really reliable is his own strength and ability.

So now, I can face anyone and say freely: Yes, I am a self-taught candidate.

My job search experience

When selecting resumes, the most important thing for human resources is your work experience. So when I write my resume, I will write my work experience in the first column and my academic background in the second column.

You should let the interviewer know that the self-taught exam is very difficult, and the pass rate is only 20%. You can pass the self-study exam, which shows that you have a strong learning ability.

In the interview, we should highlight the advantages of self-candidates. Self-taught candidates are generally more practical, hardworking and persistent, and their practical ability is usually stronger than that of undergraduates who graduated from regular colleges and universities.

In reality, it is inevitable that employers are biased against the survival of self-taught exams. Influenced by these prejudices, many self-taught candidates can't overcome their inner psychological weakness in job hunting, so they are in a weak position in the interview process and can't play their normal level. Self-taught candidates should pay attention to adjusting their mentality, dare to show themselves and take the initiative to attack, knowing that confident people are often easily favored by examiners.

If the self-taught candidates have not yet obtained the self-taught graduation certificate, they may wish to take the relevant qualification certificate first to make up for the lack of academic qualifications. At present, many self-taught new majors have set up corresponding certificate courses, which can not only get graduation certificates, but also get qualification certificates, which is very helpful for employment. For example, English majors can get a translation qualification certificate and have a lot of good helpers when looking for a job.

Try not to go to state-owned enterprises, which discriminate against self-taught candidates very seriously. On the contrary, some well-known foreign companies usually pay more attention to their work ability and can treat self-taught candidates fairly.

Self-taught candidates should not expect to be civil servants, and discrimination against self-taught candidates begins with state organs.

Pay as much attention to recruitment as self-taught exams.

My advice to job seekers

If you are young and there is no pressure in life, don't choose to study while working. You might as well stay at home and concentrate on your studies and go all out to get your diploma.

When choosing a self-taught major, we should combine our own advantages with the current employment situation.

Cultivate self-study ability, try to understand concepts and knowledge points by yourself, and don't rely too much on remedial classes or others.

Respect every subject, especially English, mathematics and other public courses. For those who study accounting, basic courses such as accounting and financial management are particularly important; For those who study law, it is jurisprudence, criminal law and civil law; For learning computers, it is the basic principles and programming of computers ... I won't list them here. In short, we should pay special attention to and care for the basic courses.

Pay attention to reviewing before the exam. Although this is not a good study method, it will certainly be useful for passing the exam.

Go to a master's degree and a prestigious school if you have the opportunity. This is a major investment in your life. In addition, you should take part in vocational training and study all the year round, including taking part in professional title examination, qualification examination and vocational continuing education, and don't fall behind in the professional field.

And the most important thing is: in the examination stage, we must make up our minds and stick to it. Because I have seen too many self-taught candidates around me give up halfway for one reason or another. For example, a boy tried to take 17, but he got 16, and another boy delayed for several years, which is very regrettable.
