To become a people's policeman, one should meet the following conditions:

People over eighteen.

Support the Constitution of People's Republic of China (PRC).

Have good political and professional qualities and good conduct.

Good health.

Graduated from high school or above.

Volunteer to work in the people's police.

One of the following circumstances, shall not serve as the people's police:

Having received criminal punishment for committing a crime.

People who have been expelled from public office.

According to Article 6 of the People's Police Law of the People's Republic of China, the people's police of public security organs shall perform the following duties in accordance with the division of responsibilities:

Prevent, stop and investigate illegal and criminal activities.

Maintain public order and stop acts that endanger public order.

Maintain traffic safety and traffic order and handle traffic accidents.

Organize and implement fire control work, and implement fire control supervision.

Manage firearms and ammunition, control knives and inflammable, explosive, toxic and radioactive dangerous goods.

Manage special industries stipulated by laws and regulations.

Guard specific personnel designated by the state and guard important places and facilities.

Manage assemblies, processions and demonstrations.

Manage household affairs, nationality, entry and exit affairs and the residence and travel of foreigners in China.

Maintain public order in border areas.

To execute criminal punishments on criminals sentenced to public surveillance, criminal detention or deprivation of political rights and criminals executed outside prison, and to supervise and inspect criminals who have been declared suspended or paroled.

Supervise and manage the security protection of computer information systems.

Guide and supervise the public security work of state organs, social organizations, enterprises and institutions and key construction projects, and guide the public security prevention work of mass organizations such as public security committees.

Other duties as prescribed by laws and regulations.
