The origin of Guangzhou Yangcheng

The origin of Guangzhou, known as Yangcheng, can be traced back to the Qin Dynasty more than two thousand years ago. It is said that there were many herders in Guangzhou at that time, and they raised a large number of sheep around the city.

One year, on his way to the East, Qin Shihuang passed by Guangzhou City and saw flocks of sheep. He asked the courtiers around him, "Where is this?" The courtier replied, "This is Yangcheng. After hearing this, Qin Shihuang named this place "Yangcheng".

With the passage of time, the name of Yangcheng became well known and became synonymous with Guangzhou. Nowadays, in addition to the official name of Guangzhou, people still habitually call Guangzhou Yangcheng to commemorate this long-standing naming source.
