The National Algae Engineering Technology Research Center was established with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2007, and operates in parallel with Shandong Dongfang Ocean Science and Technology Co., Ltd. The Center will be built into a domestic first-class and internationally influential engineering technology research center integrating algae technology research, achievement transformation, product development, introduction and digestion and technical training with the goal of cultivating excellent algae varieties, healthy seedlings and green and high-value utilization of algae, so as to promote the technological upgrading of China's algae industry.

After the planning of "Center" is completed, the facilities and equipment will reach the international advanced level, with five laboratories, including marine biology laboratory, large algae laboratory, microalgae laboratory, algae comprehensive development laboratory and analysis and testing laboratory, as well as three fine algae breeding, breeding and comprehensive processing demonstration bases, including 9 136㎡ seed breeding base, 800㎡ supporting facilities, breeding base and 2000㎡ comprehensive processing pilot plant.

Since its establishment, the "Center" has invested more than RMB10,000, and completed the construction of two laboratories and three demonstration bases, including marine biology laboratory and large algae laboratory. Coastal Biological Resources Laboratory is a joint research and development platform and experimental base established by Shandong Oriental Ocean Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and Yantai Institute of Coastal Sustainable Development of China Academy of Sciences, which is dedicated to the sustainable development of coastal resources and environment and the development of high value-added marine biological resources. It combines scientific research and production closely, and the two sides complement each other, share resources, innovate together, and accelerate the transformation and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.

Aquatic seed farm is the earliest kelp seedling farm in China, which was listed as a national aquatic seed farm by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1999.

State-level aquaculture farms have scientific research and production facilities integrating species protection, breeding and breeding, of which the scientific research building covers an area of 3,000 square meters; ; There is a center for kelp germplasm preservation, identification and new variety cultivation, with laboratories for low-temperature culture, cloning and amplification culture, constant-temperature seed production, molecular biology, sterile culture, ultra-low-temperature freezing and biochemical analysis, and 62 sets of advanced instruments and equipment; The kelp nursery is 9000㎡, the comprehensive nursery is 5000㎡, and the sea cucumber intensive pond is 250 mu. It is located in Yunxi Village, Jianggezhuang Town, Muping District, Yantai City. At present, an improved production system based on gametophyte cloning technology has been established, including germplasm preservation, variety cultivation and seedling breeding. A first-class kelp germplasm resource bank at home and abroad has been established, and more than 6,000 female gametophyte clones of 49 varieties (lines) at home and abroad have been collected and preserved.

The self-developed "90 1 New Kelp Variety Cultivation" won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Agriculture and the second prize of national scientific and technological progress, which is a rare award in aquaculture industry in recent ten years. "Dongfang No.2" kelp won the first prize of scientific and technological progress in Shandong Province in 2007, and "Dongfang No.3" won the top ten scientific and technological achievements prize in Yantai City. The major scientific research project of Shandong Science and Technology Commission "Research and Development of Kelp Germplasm Clone Seed Production Technology" undertaken in cooperation with China Ocean University won the first prize of marine innovation achievement of the State Oceanic Administration; The new kelp varieties "90 1", "Dongfang No.2" and "Dongfang No.3" independently researched and developed were approved by the National Aquatic Original Variety Approval Committee 1996 in 2005 and 2008 respectively, and were announced as new kelp varieties suitable for popularization in China. They are three of the four new kelp varieties approved by the whole country.

The main breeding varieties of national aquaculture farms have obtained pollution-free origin identification and pollution-free product certification, with an annual output of 65.438+0.25 billion high-quality kelp varieties, 50,000 kilograms of sea cucumber seedlings and 40 tons of commercial ginseng.
