The Construction History of Confucius Temple in Nagasaki

In 195 (Guangxu 31), at the suggestion of Consul Bian Chang, the Consulate General of the Qing Government in Nagasaki, overseas Chinese in Nagasaki built the only school in Kyushu to train children of overseas Chinese. And recruit graduates from normal schools in the motherland to teach in Japan. The daily expenses of the middle school are mainly borne by the three gangs, and Guangdong, Minnan, Fuzhou, Zhejiang, Beijing, Japanese and English are used as teaching languages. Shizhong school is located on the right side of the temple. After the establishment of "Shizhong" school, a large number of overseas Chinese children have been trained, which has made important contributions to promoting the culture of the motherland and occupies an important position in the educational history of overseas Chinese schools in Japan. The Confucius Temple in Nagasaki was destroyed when Nagasaki was bombed by atomic bombs in wartime, and broken walls was everywhere. In 196, the financial operation of the middle school began to deteriorate. In order to help overseas Chinese schools, the Confucius Temple was renovated as a sightseeing facility in 1967. After a lapse of 74 years, Shizhong School left the Confucius Temple, the cradle of its birth, and moved to a newly-built school building in No.22 field, Dapu Town, just across the path from the Confucius Temple (Shizhong School was closed in 1989). In this reconstruction, the Chongshen Temple in the back of Dacheng Hall, the main hall of Confucius Temple, was demolished, and the "Tang Hall" was newly built, and Dacheng Hall and Shimen were rebuilt, and the instrument door (main entrance) damaged by the super typhoon in the early Showa period was rebuilt. This time, it was changed to the principle of thoroughly implementing the authentic temples in China. At that time, it was during the Cultural Revolution in China, so 15 professional craftsmen (1 decorators and 5 masons) from Taiwan Province were specially invited to participate in this construction. The tiles and decorative glass used in this reconstruction are all specially transported from Taiwan Province. The newly-built halls and instrument doors on both sides of the Dacheng Hall and the main hall are all covered with golden ceramic tiles, and the Kirin, Dragon, Phoenix and Tower decorated on the beautiful slowly sloping roofs are all made of red, white, blue and blue glass, shining in the sun. The reconstruction cost more than 2 million yuan, and the inauguration ceremony was held on September 28th, the birthday of Confucius. Since then, after 74 years of wind and rain, the Confucius Temple in Nagasaki has started a new journey in order to adapt to the times and the actual situation of overseas Chinese society at that time. On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the founding of Confucius Temple in Nagasaki in 1983, the Confucius Temple was renovated again, and the Tang Dynasty Hall at the back of Dacheng Hall was built into a museum of China's past dynasties. Therefore, the present Confucius Temple is called Nagasaki Confucius Temple China Museum of Past Dynasties. With Dacheng Hall as the center, it was refitted, and 75, pieces of sulfur glazed tiles were specially purchased from Beijing Ancient Construction Company. Eight pairs of beautiful sculptures of dragons and immortals were added to the top of the temple, and the statues of 72 sages carved with blue and white stones were added to the sidewalks on both sides of Dacheng Hall in the main hall. The altar of Confucius was placed inside Dacheng Hall, all of which were painted and pasted with gold foil, the four heights of Confucius. At the same time, the full text of the Analects of Confucius with more than 16, words was carved on the marble produced in Hualien, Taiwan, which is equivalent to the back wall of the halls on both sides of the left and right cloisters, thus becoming the present form of Confucius Temple. At present, there are a pair of large Chinese-faced stone lions in front of the instrument gate of the Confucius Temple, and a pair of dragon bat stone tablets stand not far from the stone lions, which are engraved with "Confucius Zan" by Wu Daozi, a famous painter in the Tang Dynasty, and "Poems on Confucius" by Mi Fei, a painter and painter in the Northern Song Dynasty. In front of the main building, Dacheng Hall, there is a large stone tablet with the full text of "University" engraved on the front and the poems of praising Confucius engraved on the back of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty. The inside of Dacheng Hall is dedicated to the statue of Confucius. The stone statues of Weng Zhong, Confucius' favorite pupil, stand on both sides of the hall, one for literature and the other for martial arts. On the whole, the Confucius Temple in Nagasaki is in the style of South China Confucian Temple. The China Museum in the rear of Dacheng Hall is a modern building, which uses fully enclosed central air-conditioning equipment and anti-theft equipment. The first floor is the Cultural Relics Hall of China History Museum, and the second floor is the Palace Cultural Relics Hall of China Palace Museum in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The cultural relics and national treasures collected by the Palace Museum and China History Museum are exhibited here every two years. Since its opening, this museum has lasted for 14 years, and has exhibited a variety of national treasures from the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of the Han Dynasty, the blue porcelain of the Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, the porcelain of the Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and the handicrafts of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. What needs to be mentioned here is that although the Confucius Temple in Nagasaki has been overhauled twice since it was founded 7 years ago, the original buildings in the early stage of the temple were basically preserved during the two overhauls. Now the cornerstone, paving stones, columns and stone gates in the Dacheng Hall are the original objects of the Confucius Temple a hundred years ago. The central section of the stone steps in Dacheng Hall and the imperial stone regarded as the right path are all paved with the same stones as those in the early stage, and the removed tiles and stones are used. Because there are evergreen trees planted in the Confucius Temple in Qufu, the water walnut tree was specially purchased and transplanted from China in the early stage of building the temple 1 years ago. As a historical witness of the Confucius Temple and the Shizhong Overseas Chinese School, this century-old water walnut tree still stands on both sides of the stone gate in the temple today. In 1986, the Confucius Temple in Nagasaki resumed the activities of offering sacrifices to Confucius. On that day, the icon of Confucius was specially placed in the Confucius Temple, where six officials were sitting on both sides. In front of the temple, one cow, one sheep and one pig were offered as offerings. As a new custom, the celebration of Confucius' birthday has been integrated into the life of overseas Chinese in Nagasaki. The Confucius Temple in Nagasaki is known as "China in Japan" and is also quite famous and influential among the Japanese. With the development of the times, the China Museum of Confucius Temple in Nagasaki has been registered as a consortium legal person in Japan. In order to promote the friendly exchanges between China and Japan, it is also engaged in international cultural exchange activities.
