Hubei University of Medicine is the only independent medical college of western medicine in Hubei Province and the adjacent areas of Hubei, Henan, Chongqing and Shaanxi, which focuses on medicine and has a coordinated development of medicine, science, engineering and management. It is located in the center of Shiyan, the "Top Ten Charming Cities in China"-"Wudang Mountain, the holy land of Taoism, and Danjiangkou, the capital of China".

The school was founded in 1965, formerly known as Yunyang Branch of Wuhan Medical College, and started general undergraduate education in 1977. 1986 was renamed as Yunyang Medical College of Tongji Medical University, and 1994 and 20 10 were independently set up as Yunyang Medical College.
