Chongqing industry polytechnic college is a full-time public institution of higher learning sponsored by Chongqing Municipal Government and headed by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission. The school's predecessor was Chongqing Machinery Manufacturing School founded by the former Ministry of Machinery Industry, 1956.

In 2000, Chongqing Machinery Manufacturing School merged with Chongqing Machinery Workers College and was upgraded to chongqing industry polytechnic college.
