Finally, I got to know the team of designers in Dongguan fashion industry when a fashion designer got together to discuss fashion trends. There are quite a few, more than 30 people from Humen, Da Lang and Changping, most of whom are well-known local brand designers. I was curious before meeting, but I was inevitably disappointed after meeting.

The whole communication process left me with two deep impressions:

1. Dongguan fashion designers lack the cultural connotation of fashion design. Looking at so many designers in front of me, I didn't find a cultural accomplishment of fashion design from them. No matter their color perception reflected from their clothes or their ability to grasp the trend reflected from their language, they are weak.

2. Dongguan fashion designers lack a kind of self-confidence. Most people always show a humble attitude in their manners. Talking about some powerful brands in China, their language is even more lacking: "It can be said that the clothing brands in Dongguan can only be said to be second-rate or third-rate in terms of style, color and fabric. The style can't compare with Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and the fabric is worse than Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. "

Through the author's preliminary understanding, a considerable number of designers in Dongguan became monks halfway, did not receive systematic clothing design education, engaged in clothing boards in clothing enterprises, and then received some short-term design training to start clothing design. So generally speaking, the understanding of some cultural elements in fashion design is weak without systematic edification of fashion design. Although he is famous in the local area, he feels like a dwarf when compared with China.

Can a designer who lacks self-confidence make a strong clothing brand?

The present situation of fashion designers in Dongguan is related to the industrial environment in Dongguan. In the industrial environment of long-term low-level processing, only the following samples are needed, and there is no independent innovative design. This kind of environment only stimulates the demand of printmakers, but does not produce the demand for fashion designers.

The environment for training fashion designers in Dongguan clothing industry is worrying. A dean of the Institute of Fashion said in a conversation with the director of operation of this magazine: "At present, among the graduates of our college, successful designers are mainly concentrated in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Fujian, accounting for a large proportion, and Dongguan is rare. Enterprises in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Fujian attach great importance to training designers, so many of our students have become talents there; Enterprises here in Dongguan generally do not attach importance to fashion designers, and it is difficult for graduates to become a climate here. So now, our graduates are not willing to come to Dongguan, Guangdong, but are more willing to go to Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Fujian. "
