On August 24, Shouguang public security department received a report from the masses that the waste leaves of green onions outside some former cold storage houses in the city contained toxic components. After receiving the alarm, the public security department quickly conducted on-site evidence collection and sampling inspection, and traced the intercepted green onions.

At the same time, Shouguang City set up an emergency response working group with the mayor as the team leader, the deputy mayor in charge as the deputy team leader, and the responsible comrades of relevant towns (streets) and departments as the team members.

On August 27th, the task force arrested the suspect Meng, a villager from Hataibaozi Village, Zhangjiatun Township, xinmin city, Liaoning Province, and escorted him back to Shouguang in the early morning of 28th. Now detained in Shouguang detention center.

According to Meng, he contracted more than 200 acres of land to grow green onions in Jiefang Village, Guanghui Sub-district Office, Yuhong District, Shenyang City. At the beginning of August, he sprayed phorate pesticide on green onions, and on August 22nd, he sold 52,000 Jin of green onions to Dong Mou, an onion vendor in Shouguang City.

According to the sampling results, this batch of green onions contains phorate, a vegetable pesticide banned by the state, and the market supervision department of Shouguang City sent an investigation letter to the agricultural department of Yuhong District, Shenyang City.

On August 24th, the day of the incident, Shouguang City organized relevant departments to collect and destroy all problematic onion leaves.

On August 25, a comprehensive investigation and sampling inspection were conducted on the foreign green onions that did not flow into the market but were processed and stored in Shouguang, and no problem of pesticide residues exceeding the standard was found.

On the morning of August 3 1, the sealed problem onion was destroyed harmlessly.

At present, the administrative punishment of relevant personnel is also being carried out according to law.
