Historical Evolution
Taoshan District is named after Taoshan in the territory. During the Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of Boli County. It was first under the jurisdiction of Nanxiang and later on Xiaowuzhan Town. After the fall of Northeast China, it was affiliated to Shijia. In May 1938, Japanese invaders occupied civilian land and established the Taoshan pioneer point. After the victory of the "1993" Anti-Japanese War in 1945, it came under the jurisdiction of the Fifth District of Boli County. In March 1948, it was placed under the newly established Qitaihe District. In February 1951, it was changed to the 12th District. In May 1955, It was renamed Qitaihe District. In March 1956, it was removed from the district and divided into townships and came under the jurisdiction of Qitaihe Township. In September 1958, it was merged into the Qitaihe People's Commune. At the end of the same year, it was placed under the jurisdiction of the Qitaihe Mining Area Commune. In March 1960, it was changed to the Qitaihe Town Commune, "integrating government and enterprise." In May 1961, government and enterprise were separated. In February 1965, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Qitaihe Special Zone, and in April 1970, it was transferred to Qitaihe City. In May of the same year, the municipal Taoshan Subdistrict Office was established and merged into Hongqi Commune in June 1973. In September 1978, the municipal government moved from Beishan to Taonan (today's Taoshan District). In October 1981, the Taoshan Subdistrict Office was reestablished. On January 20, 1984, the provincial government approved the establishment of Taoshan District.
In 1992, Taoshan District was a municipal district under the jurisdiction of Qitaihe City. It is located in the west of the city, adjacent to Qiezihe District in the east, Xinxing District in the west, and Boli County in the south and north. It is the seat of the municipal government. The district has a total area of ??74.3 square kilometers and governs four sub-district offices including Taoxi, Taobei, Taonan and Xingang as well as Taoxi Township.
