The official name of the Flying Tigers is China Air Force American Volunteer Air Force, which was established in China during World War II and was composed of American pilots. It fought the Japanese in China and Burma.

The American Volunteer Air Force of China Air Force was mainly founded by American retired flight instructor Chennault. Chennault went to China on 1937 and was appointed as a consultant to help develop China Air Force and train pilots.
