Zhengzhou is the capital of Henan Province, China. As a prefecture-level city, Zhengzhou is one of the eight ancient capitals of China, a national historical and cultural city, a national central city of China and an important comprehensive transportation hub of the country. Zhengzhou is located in the north-central part of Henan Province, in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.

It has jurisdiction over 6 municipal districts, 5 county-level cities and 1 county, with a total area of 7,567.18 square kilometers, including urban area of10.078 square kilometers and urban built-up area of 373 square kilometers in 20 12. In 20 17, the resident population of the city was 9.882 million, including 4.8 million in the urban area. Residents are mainly Han nationality, and their mother tongue is Zhengzhou dialect, the official language of the Central Plains.

It was led by Xuanyuan, the ancestor of Chinese humanities born in Xinzheng, so it was listed as one of the eight ancient capitals in China.

Archaeologists discovered the site of Xishan ancient city in Mangling, the northern suburb of Zhengzhou, in 1995, which advanced the urban appearance of Zhengzhou to the late Yangshao culture about 5,300 years ago and was regarded as the source of urban civilization in China.
