Job Recruitment Website - Zhaopincom - Now let's talk about bank recruitment. What should we pay attention to?
Now let's talk about bank recruitment. What should we pay attention to?
1. Education
Generally speaking, it depends on your school and major. Consulting companies do not require candidates to have any professional background, nor do they ask for any school graduation, and their personnel composition is also relatively diverse. For example, Bain's recruitment is diversified. Among the offerors, there are some who study geography, medicine, information management and law, and some who graduated from Shanghai International Studies University, Tongji University and Beijing Foreign Studies University. McKinsey and BCG only pay attention to students from Peking University, Tsinghua, Jiaotong University and Fudan University, and their majors are foreign languages, economics, computers and communications (but nothing is absolute, waiting for you to change). As for the master's degree or undergraduate course, which is more advantageous, it is even more difficult to say. The key is comprehensive quality and ability. To tell the truth, a master's degree does not have much advantage over an undergraduate course.
2. Academic performance
Achievement is a hard thing, so I won't talk about it in this article, because it's very clear outside the case interview. It is always good to get higher grades, but it is not a big problem to get lower grades. Just not too low. The key is to need other parts to make up the points. However, scholarships are really important, which should be emphasized again.
3. English ability
I don't think the ability to speak English here necessarily requires winning the first prize in any national English competition, or taking advanced interpretation, GMAT, GRE, TOFEL, TSE and so on. In fact, the English used in the interview is not very demanding, needless to say, it is as fluent as the mother tongue (if possible, that is the best). The key is to express yourself fluently and accurately. To put it bluntly, let others know what you mean, and you won't be tired when you talk.
Of course, if you are good at English during the interview, you may get extra points. However, I personally think that a foreign language is actually a tool to help you express yourself better and understand others. As long as I can reach this level, I think my English ability is enough to meet the needs of my daily work.
For applicants whose spoken English is not very good, it is not without opportunities. McKinsey, Boston Consulting, Kearney and roland berger may all use Chinese in a round of interviews, so that candidates can better express their ideas and show themselves. But then again, the people who finally entered McKinsey, BCG and ATK ATK all had good English.
4. Extracurricular activities and honors
The experience of extracurricular activities sometimes makes up for the influence of low grades. Because participating in extracurricular activities and getting excellent results can broaden your horizons and improve your communication and expression skills.
There are many extracurricular activities now, such as McKinsey's Scholar Program, L 'Oré al's Estrat and brandstorm Planning Competition, Danone Global Business Planning Competition (all teams from Jiaotong University have won the first two championships in China and ranked second in the world), Shell Gourami Business Challenge and JA Global Business Challenge. Entrepreneurial planning contest, exhibition planning contest, financial analysis contest, Bertelsmann Media Inside, HPAIR, Stanford Asia Technology Entrepreneurship and so on.
Another advantage of participating in extracurricular activities is that it can help you build your own network and expand your network for future needs.
5. Community work
Community work mainly reflects whether you have leadership skills and good communication and coordination skills. Join student associations, international non-profit organizations, public welfare organizations, etc. It can show your ability. The position of community work is not the most important, and it is not required that every applicant is the president of the student union, the president of the research association or the president of the association. Because the future work will be a team, not everyone is the leader of the team, and communication and cooperation between leaders and members are needed in the work. More often, you will find how to be an excellent collaborator, and the executor is more important than becoming a leader.
Of course, if you have been a leader, this may give you an advantage. Whether you are the president of the student union, the president of the club or the department minister, the ability to lead the team can be reflected. As a leader, your achievements or gains will be the focus of discussion in the interview. Some student cadres just hang a name and don't do practical things, then he will definitely say nothing in the interview, and such people will eventually be eliminated; However, some student cadres will talk about what difficulties they have encountered in their work, how to overcome them and solve problems, and what they have gained. These are what the interviewer wants to hear.
I think what teclast mentioned in Beyond Case Interview is right: whether you are in a student club or a student union, whether you are leading a team of 300 or 5 people, as long as you are committed to improving yourself and making this team stronger, you will certainly hone the leadership and communication skills that consulting companies value.
6. Internship experience
Internship experience is also very important. The consulting company I mentioned earlier hopes to find "low risk" people. Low risk means that you have done similar work in this line and know this line better. So if you want to consult, the best internship experience is undoubtedly consulting company.
At present, McKinsey, BCG, Bain, roland berger, Lek, Bah, ATK, Monitor and other companies have systems for recruiting part-time or interns, and there are often information about this on BBS. However, there is another way to do internships in these consulting companies with high probability, which is alumni recommendation. If you have familiar siblings or relatives and friends working in these consulting companies, internal recommendation will make it easier for you to get internship opportunities, at least interview opportunities.
Some students I know have no internship or part-time experience before, but they want to enter a top consulting company for the first internship or some students have never done non-technical work. It is unrealistic to jump from a technical company to a consulting company for an internship at once. This is a step-by-step process, which has a certain Matthew effect, so we must accumulate more internship experience, whether it is companies in the industry or service industries, whether it is technical or non-technical work, starting from the bottom, so that we can not only exercise our work ability, but also accumulate certain industry experience.
You don't need to list too many internship experiences on your resume, just list 3-4, otherwise people will feel too alive and unreliable, hehe. Btw, don't put the experience of tutoring or volunteering into your internship experience. It's neither fish nor fowl.
To sum up, in a word, you should try to highlight your own advantages and characteristics in your resume, never write false information or exaggerate the facts. Once found out, you will lose the opportunity of interview, and even be considered to have a personality problem, which will affect your future employment. Resume is ready, let's take a look at what knowledge we need to apply for a consulting company and participate in a case interview.
If you are a non-major in economics and management, the interviewer may not have high requirements for your knowledge of economics and management during the interview, but I think the necessary basic knowledge of economics and management is still essential, which may include:
1.4p (product, price, place and promotion) is the only magic weapon to analyze and solve marketing problems.
2. Fixed cost and variable cost
3. BCG matrix
4. Porter's five forces (Michael Porter's important strategic theory) and three strategies.
5. Financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement)
6. Corporate finance Corporate finance (stocks, bonds, interest rates, net present value method, capital asset pricing model -CAPM, WACC, etc. )
7. Basic knowledge of 7.M&
8. Product life cycle
9. Value chain analysis
Benchmarks and best practices.
Wait a minute. For reference books, please refer to Outlook beyond Case Interview.
In addition, it is also important to accumulate some necessary industry knowledge. For example, automobile industry, financial industry, fast-moving consumer goods industry, telecommunications industry, energy industry, manufacturing industry and so on. They are all hot industries in case interviews, and interviewers will be more inclined to use cases from these industries.
Usually you can read more newspapers and magazines, such as Economic Observer, 2 1 Century Business Report, Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, McKinsey Quarterly, etc. These books will help you accumulate the necessary industry knowledge and get expert opinions on such issues. In addition, you can join some excellent societies and have some understanding of different industries.
