II. Project Introduction

(1) High-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant demonstration project

Modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant has inherent safety and simple system. It has high power generation efficiency, wide range of uses, and potential economic competitiveness. It has received widespread attention internationally and is one of the fourth-generation advanced nuclear reactor types that can meet the needs of the future energy market.

The 10MW high-temperature gas-cooled experimental reactor nuclear power station independently designed and built by Tsinghua University achieved full power operation in January 2003, becoming the world's first experimental power station with the characteristics of a modular high-temperature reactor.

In order to promote the construction of commercial demonstration projects of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plants with independent intellectual property rights, in February 2006, the "National Medium and Long-term Science and Technology Development Plan (2006-2020)" included high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. The reactor nuclear power plant demonstration project was included in the major national science and technology projects; in June 2006, the State Council established a leading group for major projects of large-scale advanced pressurized water reactors and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors; in September 2007, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense organized the preparation of the "High-temperature Gas-cooled Reactors" The overall implementation plan for major special projects of reactor nuclear power plants passed the expert review; on February 15, 2008, the executive meeting of the State Council reviewed and approved the implementation plan of major special projects, marking that the major special project has entered the implementation stage.

(2) Pressurized water reactor expansion project
