Why is it commendable to stop Baotou from borrowing money to repair the subway?

It is reported that a few days ago, the relevant departments of Baotou stopped the Baotou subway project and the Hohhot subway line 3, 4 and 5 projects. This is nearly five months after the suspension of the Baotou subway project, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region officially announced that the project has been stopped.

In this regard, some media commented that this is an open and frank thing, a rational behavior and a commendable move. The benefits of iron are beyond doubt. However, the high cost of construction and operation, the embarrassment of core technology and the lack of domestic innovation power have become the restrictive factors for the development of subway construction. To this end, the debt ratio of some cities has been rising, and the debt risk has increased significantly.

Compared with subway investment, the financial resources of local governments are mostly based on parent funds to incite more banks and social funds, with the government's credibility as the guarantee, small and wide, less and more. This "method" of local governments is of positive significance. It is a sign of wanting to do more things, which should be affirmed.

As far as urban rail transit construction is concerned, subway is only a form, not the only choice. Tram, as a public transportation mode in small and medium-sized cities, has the characteristics of energy saving, environmental protection, large passenger capacity, comfort and humanization, speed and convenience, and strong environmental adaptability, and has attracted more and more attention.
